Can I put a +1/+1 counter of Force of Savagery to save it from dying?

Asked by Pheardemons 9 years ago

If I castForce of Savagery, and once it resolves put a +1/+1 counter on it at instant speed with let's say Burst of Strength, would it survive?

Once it hits the battlefield with zero toughness is it automatically put into the graveyard with no way of saving it unless something like Gaea's Anthem is already on the battlefield?

No, you cannot do that as described.

Every time before a player would receive priority to cast a spell or activate an ability, state-based actions are checked. One of things these SBAs check is if creatures have insufficient toughness. Those are immediately put into the graveyard. Only after that do you receive priority to cast Burst of Strength.

Still a great card to use with Varolz, the Scar-Striped, giving you 8 counters at the cost of 3 mana.

I agree that combination would be amazing, just not what I'm trying to do with the deck I'm building. That might be something later because that and Death's Shadow also works well. Thank you for answering the question!

No, that won't work, as 0 toughness means it immediately dies. But Gaea's Anthem will save it. The Varolz combo is great though. I might make a deck with this.
