can the proliferate mechanic increase the buff your creature recieves from an equipment.example:

leonin scimitar gives a +1/+1 buff to the thrummingbird that it is equipped to. thrummingbird attacks and is unblocked dealing damage to player. thrummingbird's mechanic states that when it damages an opponent proliferate. is that +1/+1 given by the thrummingbird's equipment an option for proliferate?

No.

The buff given by equipment, like Leonin Scimitar , is a static buff. It is not based on +1/+1 counters. Only counters can be proliferated. Static effects cannot.

If you had an equipment like Blade of the Bloodchief or card:Umezawa's Jitte, then the counters placed CAN be proliferated.

All you have to do is look for the keyword "counter" and you'll know if you can proliferate or not. If the word counter is never used, then there is no opportunity to proliferate.

@landgrafb is right.

There's a difference of static buffs/nerfs and counters.

For example:

Hunger of the Howlpack , Increasing Savagery etc place COUNTERS on a creature.

Honor of the Pure , Cemetery Reaper , Goblin Chieftain etc. give static BUFFS to multiple creatures.

You need to make sure a COUNTER (+1/+1, -1/-1, Poison, Loyalty, Charge etc.) is on the creature/player to proliferate.
