Can i equip multiple times on the same creature?

Can i repeatedly equip piston sledge on the same creature so i can sac my ichor wellsprings and draw cards?

Yes. As long as it's to a creature that is a valid target, you can equip it as many times as your heart desires.

If it is the only creature that you have out, you wont be able to re-equip it to the same creature if it is already equiped.

Course I could be wrong.

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that I'm right.

The only thing that equipping looks for to be a valid target is a targetable creature. You can have more than 1 equipment on a creature at a time, thus, it should be a legal target. There is no reason I can see that you can't equip the equipped creature.

In most cases it's a pointless waste of mana but in his case it's a good move.

You're allowed to activate an ability any time you have priority and are able to pay the costs and choose enough legal targets. The rules text for the equip ability says "(cost): Attach this permanent to target creature you control. Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery." Because it doesn't say you can't target the creature already equipped, you're allowed to do that.

Thanks for backing me up on that. I was pretty sure I was right.

It's actually a pretty good idea you had. props to you joga for coming up with it.

From what I understand from the OP's question is this:

He has one Piston Sledge and one creature with a couple of Ichor Wellspring s... He is asking if he can equip the Piston Sledge multiple times to his only creature...

My understanding of this is that if you have an equipment already equiped to a creature, you are unable to reequip that same equipment to the creature that it is already equiped too unless you equip that equipment to a different creature first...

You can bop it on the one creature. This was abused via Lightning Greaves for both Life builds and Cephalid Breakfast.

@arobidoux, the rules text for Equip I quoted is directly from its entry in the Comprehensive Rules, 702.6a. There is no targeting restriction or other rule keeping a player from reequipping the same creature.

@sporkife, it doesn't work with Lightning Greaves because Greaves gives the creature shroud, so you can't target it. The equipment used in the combos you mention was Shuko (Nomads en-Kor was more commonly used, since its ability isn't restricted to "sorcery speed" like equipment is).

crap, i knew i was messing something up.

as way of excuse, i will say that for the longest time (years) i thought greaves was troll shroud. and yeah, it was various en-Kor as well as Shuko .

I'm really tempted to go all 'old fogey' for m12 and insist on calling it troll shroud since I've been around about as long as that name. I really am. I don't normally do things like that, but fear (now "intimidate"...yeah, right) and now troll shroud ("hexproof"? watch me drop six creatures with "hexproof" and then blow them all up at once with Hex ...I'll do it, I swear) it seems just...eh, I guess for troll shroud it saves card space, but I still don't like it, and fear was fine as it was. I must be a bit set in my ways in my "old" age.

Sorry for ranting, and being occasionally misleading. Mpz5 and Rhadamanthus have got it though.
