Blind Obedience/Extort Question?
Asked by Human_Rogue_21 12 years ago
If a have a single copy of Blind Obedience on the battlefield and I cast a spell, can I use the Extort ability more than once? For example: Blind Obedience is on the field, I have 4 Plains and 4Swamp s. I cast High Priest of Penance and tap 6 lands to Extort 6 times, therefore I gain 6 life and the opponent loses 6 life. Can I do this?
Nope. Extort is a trigger effect, and can only be used once each time the effect is triggered. Ex: Blind Obedience is on the field, and I cast High Priest of Penance . The spell High Priest of Penance would trigger extort only once, thus you would only be able to use extort once, per case of extort. After that, you have both out and play, say, Murder . This would trigger the extort once, however with BOTH cases of extort, so you could then pay for extort twice, once for each extort.

No. You can only extort as many permanents you have that have Extort on them.
Whenever you cast a spell, one extort effect will trigger for each permanent you have with Extort on it. For each of these effects on the stack, you can pay a B/W to drain one. The Extort reminder text only allows you to pay 1, so you can't pay any more to get additional effects.

For some reason I was thinking High Priest of Penance had extort, sorry for the bad example.

Short answer: no.
Long answer: Extort is a triggered ability. It triggers whenever you cast a spell. Since you only cast High Priest of Penance once, you can only use Extort once for each thing you have with Extort. If you somehow had, say, 4 Blind Obedience s, you could trigger Extort up to 4 times. Since you only have 1 in your scenario, you can only trigger once.
