Are copies of a spell cast as a spell?

Slaughter Pact with Hive Mind can make people lose, but if that Slaughter Pact is imprinted on an Isochron Scepter , does it still work?

Because Isochron Scepter explicitly says you cast the copy, you, well, cast the copy. The cast will trigger Hive Mind 's triggered ability.

Normally, copy effects that copy an instant or sorcery card will cause you to cast the copy (see Spellweaver Helix , Isochron Scepter ). Effects that copy an instant or sorcery spell will not cause you to cast the copy (see Reverberate , Reiterate ).

Ah, so the copy is considered a spell as well? :o

The copy is itself a spell, even if it isn't a spell card. However, the important thing in this case is whether the copy is cast. Isochron Scepter 's ability casts the spell, whereas a spell-copying effect like Reverberate does not cause you to cast the copy.

Copies go into the same zone as the original. So Isochron Scepter creates a copy of a card, in the same place as that card: the exile zone. Since that's not useful to anyone (and will cease to exist the next time state-based actions are checked), it puts it on the stack! (This is called "casting".) On the other hand, copying a spell doesn't make you put that spell on the stack, because it was already there, now there are just more of them. So this is not casting.
