Arcbond + Soulfire Grand Master

Asked by Delmare 10 years ago

Ajani's Presence + Arcbond + Soulfire Grand Master . Would the damage from the Arcbond trigger the spell lifelink from Soulfire even though it's not doing direct damage and it's the creature doing the damage?

Arcbond makes the creature deal the damage, not Arcbond itself, so I don't believe the lifelink applies to it.

Lifelink modifies how the creature deals damage. Since Soulfire Grand Master has lifelink itself, it works. However, if you control a SFGM and target a Storm Crow that will be damaged with arcbond, no life will be gained since the creature is the source of the damage.

First, the lifelink effect is not triggered - it's simply giving all Instants and Sorceries you control lifelink. That includes Ajani's Presence and Arcbond, however since those spells don't deal damage themselves, it doesn't do a whole lot.

As Boza said correctly, Soulfire Grand Master has Lifelink herself, so all damage she deals (whether it's combat damage or damage caused by Arcbond) will gain you that much life, however it won't for creatures without lifelink.

So I would need to use Arcbond on SFGM and something like Ajani's Presence or God's Willing to keep it alive?

Yes, that is it.

Delmare: It depends on what you're trying to do, but you need neither Gods Willing nor Ajani's Presence to gain life from Arcbound's effect, which was your original question... I was wondering in the beginning why you included Ajani's Presence in this :)

It seems that they were included to keep SFGM alive

As Colten_Lee said. To keep him alive. I have the answer I needed. Thank you all very much.
