I came across the Horde Magic, and I really liked the concept I've built my own Hexi's Zombie EDH Horde. I was wondering if anyone else has built any kind of PVE deck. I plan on making more in the future based around the following:

Dragons

Krakens

I built a few for a store events. I made zombies, deep sea bois (sea monsters), angels/demons and a hard mode Eldrazi one. The issue that I run into is that a cedh deck can typically hose any of the decks.

I did a knock off of the original Zombie deck and have it listed here:I Want Your Brains!

I also did one with Elementals here: Elemental Annihilation.

For both decks I substituted cards I could list with the tokens that are in the decks. I mention it in the deck descriptions.

Made mine public so I could share! =D Anyways, I did have a hard mode one but I never got around to finishing it - a lot of the cooler cards required decision making so I ended up nixing the project until I got some more heavy hitters.

Playing against the horde seems really fun! It gives MtG a co-op element more akin to a boardgame like Shadowrift, which is one of my personal favorites. Thank you all for sharing your decks, I will have to try this out sometime soon!

It is a lot of fun.

One of the important elements is balancing the "Survivor" decks. Those are the ones the players use. In the spirt of the format, None of the Survivor decks should have infinite combos, soft or hard locks, or cards that trivialize the Horde deck. Otherwise, it just becomes unfun.

What I did was gave the players of my group a generic ban list and then a set of deck building suggestions/guidelines. They built their decks and when we got together to play we made a house rule before we started that if a drawn card by a player violated the spirt of the rules that it had to be put in the graveyard of the drawing player and they could draw again. We ruled on the cards as a group by voting.

This worked out really well and the next time I got asked to bring out the Horde deck, all the players had deleted and replaced the offending cards from last time. We had a great time.

The players will still win a lot versus the Horde deck, but depending on how you build the Horde deck you can have surprise blow outs or pseudo combo off with a great run of tokens and support cards.

It's become a permanent part of our rotations when we get together. Errr, used to get together because COVID.

Now I have to steal RNR_Gaming's deep sea bois deck and make a version for my group!

Once we get playing again in person, anyways.

MagicMarc the deep sea bois was actually fairly strong. Though some of the flavorful soft wipes proved fairly problematic but definitely don't mind you stealing the list lol I probably should update it. Seeing as we've gotten more sea creatures.

I've actually tried to remedy that issue with emblems. The horde having static hexproof and being able to untap at the start of combat usually fixes some issues. Additionally, allowing the horde to ignore effects like Blazing Archon usually stops anything cheeky from happening.

I like when the Horde deck can wipe the table. The whole point is to challenge the players. Though I will keep the sweepers to a minimum, like 2-3 for the deck.

Blazing Archon and cards like it are part of the ban list for my group. Though, I like your way where you just ignore the can't attack line. That way the player still has a 5/6 flyer. I may revisit my ban list and just have House errata rulings for the Horde Magic games.

These were built for a store event and everyone kinda does their own thing. Theres a lot of mismatched power levels. You'll have a much easier time curtailing this to a small group. I had to include A LOT of wraths cause there's always that 1 guy that gets way too out of hand too quick.

I can see how that would raise some issues. Having some say at the deck construction phase makes it go more smoothly.

Though brewing a Horde deck to face a table full of FNM players sounds fun too.

I never figured out the tokens for this 1 - I wanted to use the biggest and best ones like desolation twins and big fat dragons but itd require more research.

Anyways, this was my hard mode version without tokens meant to be the final boss of any game night.

I have 2 guys that are helping me build things for it. We are working on building pre-built decks for it based on typical rpg classes.

This is one my group came up with several years ago. It's a red burn-style deck. We had some good matches against it.

Hexi180 Would you mind posting the decks you end up with? I'm curious what they're going to look like.
