$$$

I’m wondering what the “$” symbols mean on my deck lists. If it were strictly value then the number of “$” don’t make sense as they don’t correlate with actual monetary value.

Different amounts mean higher priced decks. I'm not sure what where the lines are, as in where $$ ends and where $$$ begins, but the more $ there are, the more expensive the deck is.

Generally speaking, people also tend to upvote, save and comment on decks with more $, because apparently that means it's "better", or something?

Wish that were true because I have decks listed with $$$ that cost more than decks listed with $$$$$

Doing a few clicks, I noticed decks that run less than $600 but more than $500 get $$, whereas decks over $600 get $$$.

Pretty sure it is tied to the pricing of the deck, but I've been very wrong before. Probably am right now.

As TypicalTimmy said, the number of dollar signed (between 1 and 5) correlates to the price of the deck. A little while ago I think the thresholds got changed changed however potentially not all decks got updated in this, thus the discrepency between some lists.

TypicalTimmy: higher budget means the deck has the potential to be better, thus will attract more attention, yes.

enpc, while the sentiment is something I can understand, in practice I've seen far too many multi-thousand dollar decks fail horrendously to a $300 deck that's very well tuned. The only reason a card is valued at such a high price is because the demand for it is so high. There are plenty of absolutely game-shattering cards that nobody plays, and the reason nobody plays them is precisely because nobody plays them.

They look at a card that's a couple of dollars and go "man that's garbage!" so they ignore it.

That's where players like myself come in, who find those cards that nobody plays and win the game with them.

The best feeling in the world is when you cast a spell and your opponent goes "wait what's that do again?" and then they lose. Lol.

I think the relationship between $s on a deck and its votes and views is a case of correlation, not of causation. Optimised lists tend to get more votes and views. Optimised lists tend to have dual lands and powerful reserve list cards. Ergo, both elements might be tied, but only insofar as a third element goes them together.

The $ also reflect the specific cards chosen, like a foiled out or alternate art deck will have more $ than a deck using baseline cards.

Also, I'm not sure if it's really this sophisticated, but I think the format might have an influence. I've noticed some $$ Commander decks that have a higher value than $$$$ Standard decks.

It is certainly format-based..

My $2,000~3,000 EDH decks are all listed at “$$$$”, whereas my $4,000+ Legacy Eldrazi deck is only “$$$”.

I wish they would adjust the $ rating on Commander decks again. I build ultrabudget decks around $30-$70. They rate as $$. So do decks that are $300, $500. There's a BIG difference between them. I'd like mine to show up as only $, because to me that reflects that they are super budget. It would also be easier to find other budget builds if there was a better distinction between budget and not really budget.
