I was wondering what everyone else thought about Resolute Archangel . Could it possibly play an important role as a 1-of in control?

Possibly. More likely in the sideboard. It really depends on the deck. Yes, the effect is great in most control builds, but for 7 mana? I think its just too expensive to see real widespread play. But I'm sure people will play around with it, and we'll have our answer soon enough.

In my opinion, the best maindeck creature for U/W control right now is AEtherling , and even that is only in 37% of control decks as per MTGGoldfish. Elspeth, Sun's Champion is the best finisher, and Sphinx's Revelation generally has the life gain angle covered. For 7 mana, I think control would rather draw 4 cards and gain 4 life than gain 10 or so life and have a 4/4 body. But I could be totally wrong.

@TheFanatic: I agree with your reasoning, but only to a point. If it comes down to 10 life versus 4 life and 4 cards, yes control would rather have Sphinx's Revelation . But I've played games with a control deck where I started to stabilize around 2-3 life. So Resolute Archangel would give me 17 life in that situation. So its possible that it could become a fringe playable card.

Honestly, I would play it as a 1-of. It can fill a slot that isn't really needed and you just keep it till you need it if you draw it. You can still play the other cards in the deck, but maybe you play 3 revs instead of 4 or something, best of both worlds

I was thinking about when Rev is gone. Rev is a beauty of a card, but I don't think wizards is going to give us anything close to it due to how amazing it was.
