Is Grave Betrayal viable in standard? Any good ideas of ways to cheat it out or just play it early or something?

To be short, no. It's pretty bad.

It's not that it's bad (see: EDH), but that's just too slow. By turn 7, you might as well already have Elspeth or Aetherling out in the same deck you'd be running this in. You'd start killing stuff on turn 8, which is just too late.

That, and it's completely dead against aggro. The only saving graces Elspeth and Aetherling have against aggro is the ability to come down and immediately force the aggro deck to put the brakes on.

I mean, you could potentially cheat it out using Black Devotion. But you'd need a lot of luck for that to even work out.

And if you're generating 7 mana before turn-7 in MBD, aren't you already winning?

At first glance, I'd say no - but that doesn't mean it can't be. After all Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx Exists. My main problem with it, is vs control it's a completely dead card.

The fact is you need good devotion and good methods to kill - so you're effectively playing mono-lack. Strangely enough, the best kill spell for excessive mana and multi hitting is Silence the Believers , which has no synergy since it exiles. Elsewise it could work in an Enchantment build with Extinguish All Hope but then you add Constellation decks to the list of bad mach ups.

Constellation though is probably the best option for it while running Doomwake Giant and Blightcaster as psuedo removal. G/B would probably be the best shell for it since you can have Eidolon of Blossoms giving you card draw and Font of Fertility to hit extra land. It certainly wouldn't be tier 1 though, not with so many control decks in standard.

Well, you can play Unexpected Results , and after you shuffle your library--IF you have the devil's luck--it will be the top card of your library.

Consistency? What's that?

It's 7 mana, it doesn't do anything... nope... probably not very good in standard...
