Mythic Edition Planeswalker Series Survey

Hello!

I am student at ASU in a Marketing program. For part of my program, I have to design a survey that I can use to collect data I can report on. Naturally, I chose to do it on Magic. If anyone has a couple free minutes and would like to take a quick anonymous survey on the new Mythic Edition Planeswalker Series, I would really appreciate it! I need ~50 responses, so anyone who takes it helps out a ton. The survey link is listed below (I apologize that it is not hyperlinked - it isn't showing up here when I do that). Thank you!

I did it, sweet survey, did you write the code for it up? Very clean interface, but the majenta color on the background could be more changed to a light or dull blueish-indigo, a color much more prone to inciting rational thought, rather than reds or more vibrant colors that incite more implusive, emotional thought, such as a player who would normally say "I don't have a preference" going to pick a side they care little to none about, scewing results. A grey or neutral would fit more for sheer simplicity than the dull, blue-indigo color, but I would recommend not using reds further.

Realspecialk you can hyper link by using the chain looking thing in the box above where you type linked here

Damn synergy that sounded way smarter then anything I've ever read about colors

Good survey, but one thing that I think you could maybe have included as a possible option to the last question was whether or not there should be both the option to still open masterpieces from booster packs and as well as buy them from Hasbro.

The one's from Hasbro could either be the exact same cards, but just serve as another route to acquire them. Or the one's chosen could even differ entirely from the masterpieces of the current set (I.e Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in the recent planeswalker series).

Thank you all who have contributed so far for taking the time to take the survey - I really appreciate it!

SynergyBuild No, I did not write the code - I have access to some software through ASU. One of ASU's school colors is maroon, which is why the background of the survey is maroon. I totally agree with you about the point you made about neutral colors, and will try implement that into future surveys I design. As it is, maroon is the automatic option, and I didn't even think of changing it. I appreciate you feedback!

shadow63 Maybe I'm missing something, but whenever I attempt to hyperlink the link, it will show up when I click preview comment before posting, but when I actually post, it disappears. I've tried several different ways, but the results are always the same. Thank you for linking it in your comment though!

_Delta_ I unfortunately can't change the current survey, but you are correct, that really should have been another option that someone could select. If I publish this survey elsewhere, I'll see if I can fix it.

Honestly, as a non-USA person that dislikes foils, I am not really the target audience for this, but did it anyway.

Hah, shadow63, I have taken a few design classes, and studied colors in particular, so I am glad once in my life I could use that kind of knowledge.

You see it a lot, evert noticed most fast-food restaurants use red and yellow in their logo, and all over branding, down to even what foods they serve, and the toppings they choose, and a near-even mix of yellows and red, complimented by white highlights? That is because those bring out an impulsive need for food, so fast food chains like Burger King, McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A, Carl's Jr./Hardys, and the rest use red/white, or red/white/green? Those colors in branding gives an estimated 23% more new customers for each advertisement in comparison to colors like blue, and also give a huge 16% more repeat customers.

Those are huge odds that just appear by a change of colors, nothing else.

So people with Naya decks eat more than those with Dimir decks? What do blue/black elicit?

Dark blues, generally have a higher chance of increasing depression, however because of the game of MTG having the colors not mixed closely, and most of the card white, it has a negligible effect, comparatively to the massive background covering your peripheral vision. I expect that blue players in general, using the newer modern card frame will have a higher chance of thinking through things, yet also be taking longer may also feel stressed due to being rushed.

A player that plays red will probably actually play more instinctively. the reds and blues take up the most of this, however greens compliment them to be slightly more neutral, so simic or gruul will have similar, yet lesser chance of serious change than players that are playing mono-blue or mono-red respectively. Black and white have little to no effect on it.

In MTG, these will be extremely small changes, as players aren't subjected to looking at the color of the card's identity. Many cards have colors in the image that will affect them more than the card's technical in-game color, so the old Alliances Force of Will might have been more impulsively cast then Counterspell, as one is red in art, and the other is blue. I don't know for sure the statistics on that, as a player might not even look at the artwork in-game, and may more often just look at the cost and ability.

Overall, I think there are far greater problems with the survey than the colouring. While colour may influence survey results, it's a fairly insignificant factor when compared to the influence a question and proposed answers can present. Here, there are a number of very significant problems with the methodology of the survey:

  1. Your formats question forgot to include Limited, which seems a fairly significant oversight. In fact, this is necessary information for the particular survey you've done. The biggest issue with the old Masterpiece plan was that the cards would be legal in Limited--imagine having a set of mediocre Standard cards, when your opponent plays a turn 1 Sol Ring. As such, Limited players are far more likely to have a different opinion than Constructed players. You probably should further split Limited down to Draft and Sealed, as they are pretty different formats.

  2. I do not think you should have italicized "only" on the first question of your third page. Italics are often used to provide emphasis, often as a means of disparaging a certain policy or argument. Here, the italics implies the surveyor, you, are dissatisfied with the change.

  3. I think you should have asked questions to ascertain thoughts on each masterpiece distribution methods separately, before launching into "how do you feel about this change?"

  4. Your responses for "how do you feel about this change" are incredibly problematic. You can "prefer the original system of cards" without being "unsatisfied with the current system." You can still want to have masterpiece cards, but not like either distribution system. There are a lot of reasonable opinions which are not addressed. This is why it would be better to have separate questions for each system, before launching into the comparisons.

I ended up taking the survey a second time to more closely examine the questions, and accidentally finished the survey. Your school should probably change the system so the final slide on the survey reads "finish" rather than have the same "move to next question" button.

Please feel free to delete the response that has a bunch of blank answers to the final couple questions.

To link to websites, you have to have the site administrator, yeaGO specifically enable this power. This review process was implemented to ensure problematic links and pictures would not be posted.
