I'm working on brewing a deck focused on getting out a Blood Moon effect turn 1. Is this as crippling in modern as in legacy?

Your best bet to do it would be 2 Simian Spirit Guide and your mountain. What type of deck are you running to make you want to do that?

Big skred red is the greatest place for what you're trying to do. I splashed white into it very effectively and have won games with a well place skred on a boros reckoner. T1 blood mon really isn't much though. It's solid Just not game winning solid

You'd be surprised how many decks it shuts down. Sure, there are decks that can play very well through a Blood Moon , but it's the same deal in Legacy. Melira Pod loses to Blood Moon unless they get lucky and draw basics and Qasali Pridemage , Tron has a very hard time, UWR has difficulty, basically any three color deck almost folds to a Blood Moon .
It doesn't beat Affinity, Rock or UR Twin outright, but even then their manlands, Urborgs (not sure what the ruling is), Tectonic Edge s, etc. are stopped.

The ruling with uraborg is it becomes a mountain therefore can not have its swamp ability

mathimus55 The deck would be built around getting Blood Moon or Magus of the Moon out turn 1, so it would have ritual effects to jump to 3 mana and drop the moon, then win at relative leisure.

The ruling with Urborg and Blood Moon is that whichever came last overwrites the other one. So your T1 Blood moon might actually be more disadvantageous to you.

cr14mson How does that make sense? Urborg won't be an urborg while blood moon is on the field. It'll be a basic mountain no matter when it is played.

not at all, affinity rock and twin will get around it and they are 30 percent of the meta
