im thinking about foiling my deck out....whats your thoughts on foils? are they a good investment or are they not even worth the trouble?

Quite frankly, I'd only foil out your favorite deck that you know you'll play for a long time. Otherwise you just wasted a good amount of money and time. Most buyers don't look specifically for foils so the resale market would be smaller.

Foils can be worth more than double the price of their regular counterparts years down the road. A foil Goblin Matron , for instance, can run upwards of $70. It takes a while for cards to hit that kind of value, however.

Ultimately, it will depend on the cards you choose to get foil versions of. A foil Diregraf Captain probably won't go up in value. A foil Farseek or other staple for non-Standard formats will generally see price increases over time. Basic lands are always good foils to have.

Personally, I'm not that big into foils. There's a few I like because of the artwork, but I'd never go about going entirely foil for a deck. The initial cost is too high for the length of time needed to make your money back.

Foiling out your deck is one of the funnest and coolest things you can do (my opinion) of course I would suggest only foiling out ones that you know you'll run for a long time (like EDH etc) basic lands are the best to foil out or even alter if you can, cuz they look the coolest. Usually depending on the card in question (and when your buying it) foil cards are about double the price of non foil cards.

honestly i hate foils, some are nice, do not get me wrong, but my foils all get tossed up on the chopping block, it is impressive when you see a foiled out deck, not my cup of tea thou.

I am in the process of foiling out Dominus - Dreamcrusher Edition, and I can tell you from experience that foiling can be time- and resource-consuming to pursue. Foils can be hard to find, especially if you're dealing with older decks.

I don't recommend foiling Standard decks because you'll be investing a lot of money in something that will decrease in value in a very short span of time. Eternal decks are safer to foil, but more expensive. EDH probably makes the most sense because all of your cards are 1-ofs (try finding that last foil Snapcaster Mage to complete your Standard playset) and many of them are cheaper than eternal staples.

For me having foils is nice and adds a little flare to the deck, but isn't a must have thing. Some foils are worth a good amount while others not so much. It's really all up to your own preference weather foils are a must have or not. Like I said I like having foils, but I won't loose any sleep for not having them either.

someone hasn't been reading the articles. :P i honestly don't think there's any point in foiling a deck. i would much rather save the money to build another deck than getting the pride or bragging rights. :)

It's a personal preference type thing tempest Some people like the way foils look, others don't. It doesn't really have anything to do with bragging rights by claiming I spent x$ to foil this, what you got. I will foil out my edh deck as soon as I have fine tuned it just because I love the way the foils look and reflect.

I suppose it could :p I use foil basics in a few of my decks just for looks, when they see foil lands I just say yea they're pretty and smile and continue on.

In the end the only advice that I or anyone else can give you is to just do what you want to do. If you want a foiled out deck go for it, I just recommend like Epoc said to NOT foil out your standard deck just because they can quickly loose value and tracking down a foil playset can be pretty difficult. All personal preference in the end though.

Yeah, I'm currently looking for foil Zendikar lands for my deck Mayael and Garruk's Wild Pair-ty simply because the full art lands pop so much more in foil.
