What's the most expensive card you've seen? Ebay or other. About a month ago, I witnessed a BGS 10 black lotus sell for $85000. Anyone else seen anything this crazy?

If that was the Alpha BGS 10 Lotus (there's only one known to exist), that's a fair bit less than what the owner's original asking price was. At least he was finally able to sell it, I guess.

I've seen plenty of cards with crazy price tags, but the one I actually saw get sold was an eBay listing for a Klug-altered Unlimited Black LotusMTG Card: Black Lotus with an absolutely beautiful art-deco theme, for a little more than $1,000.

I deal a lot with eternal staples, so I've seen $200 MoatMTG Card: Moats, $300 Mishra's WorkshopMTG Card: Mishra's Workshops, and everything from Alpha Power to Alpha Lightning BoltMTG Card: Lightning Bolts and basic lands. I've held Black LotusMTG Card: Black Lotuses and at least one of each Mox. I can only imagine that graded cards and cards that retail online get to unaffordable prices.

I had an alpha Mox RubyMTG Card: Mox Ruby that I traded for, but sold it after a couple months. Wish I would have held in to it..

I refer you to an article written by Chas Andres from Channel Fireball. He did an excellent job tracking down some of the rarest cards in all of Magic History, and I would highly recommend reading more of his articles if you are interested in the financial aspect of Magic: The Gathering.

Happy reading!

P.S. For those of you who don't want to read the whole article, Chas estimates that a 10 BGS/PSA Graded Lotus is worth about $10,000 due to the fact that very few have ever actually been sold, and the $85,000 claim was never proven.
