Innistrad's Significance of the Number 13?

I'm a little curious about the lore of the plane of Innistrad itself and I always ask myself this question but never really found an answer: what's is the huge deal with the number 13 in this block? A lot of cards have it on them, like Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip, or that blue card that gives a creature -13/0 or even that binding blade equipment card. There may be some obvious reason out there in the lore that I must have read over or something.

Maybe because 13 is an unlucky number, and Innistrad is a cursed plane.

if you read some of the spoiler articles (especially MaRo's) for the innistrad block so far you'll find their explanation behind the number 13.

As cryptichorror said. With the horror theme of the Innistrad block and the movies Friday the 13th, it was just another way to add to the flavor of the set.

Sounds like a pretty unlucky number all right, no novals for the innistrad block...unless they decide to drop it around avacyn restored. Ive also heard they stopped the idea of printing out those comics as well as the planeswalker novels. (if anyone can clarify on that id greatly appreciate it)

I believe it's two fold(I could be very wrong).

1st: I think after Zendikar-Block/Eldrezi, Wizards is trying to find a stable "creatures shouldn't be bigger than this; 13/13" I'ts not solely in Innistrad-Block.

2nd: Yes I believe it also goes with the Horror/Gothic theme of Innistrad. 13 being an unlucky/bad luck number.

yah, i think with Tragic SlipMTG Card: Tragic Slip being a 1drop that WotC listen'd to most players suggestions. That casting fatti's is not as appreciated as a over whelming army of weenies.

I hope avacyn comes out a 12/12 with undying though, if ya get my drift.

The reason they revealed it so early was because wizards had a thing that on facebook that if they got 10000 shares they would reveal avacyn and they did on the first day.

Also see in relation to this the card Shivan MeteorMTG Card: Shivan Meteor the first i know that had the number 13 on it. i think as well as all the other reasons its just a nice in house joke they keep running with at WoTC IMO it is funny to meteor something scary. obviously this was released in planar chaos which in itself was a little off its tits so i think the crazy theme continued on :-). [on a side note my Kaalia of the VastMTG Card: Kaalia of the Vast EDH deck will LOVE the new avacyn and Griselbrand!! they are insane]
