Ertai's Meddling

I was looking through some of my old cards yesterday and came across a copy of Ertai's Meddling . Back in those days I just found this card confusing and not able to do much, but now as an avid blue player I find it interesting. Does anyone out there remember this card, and if so have you ever found good use for it?

I guess it gives you time to screw up the spell's targets if its a targeting spell. Bounce, flicker, all that stuff would give the spell no legal target. But yeah, Delay seems much better. The only place I could see Ertai's Meddling is in EDH (as a "copy" of Delay), but it doesn't seem very good in EDH unless it will slow down an infinite combo. And even then you'd rather have Delay in hand.

Is there any reason a person would want to, say... delay their own spell? It's going to go off, so it's not a counter. The only sure-fire use I can think of is to target your own stuff. Perhaps, a creature spell that will go off the turn after you wrath?

You could also delay your own spells to orchestrate a high Storm count for cards like Empty the Warrens and Ignite Memories and the like. So, say, Turn 4 you Delay a Manamorphose . Turns 5 and 6 you use suspend on a few cards (e.g: Rift Bolt ). Turn 7 those go off, your Delayed spell goes off, and you still have all your mana (in this case, plus extra) to play more spells and get a decent storm count for something awesome! And that's not even the most efficient way to play it like this!

it depends, if you have no counters in hand besides that, and your opponent is about to drop a bomb, then using that could give you time to draw what you need to remove it when it comes into play or maybe you could finish off your opponent before their bomb hits the field. Delay is nice because it only cost 2, but using Ertai's Meddling could buy you more time than just the 3 turns, plus if you delay a creature it gains haste and with Ertai's Meddling it wouldn't.

it doesn't do much except use a ton of mana for a spell that will come back sooner, Delay is better.
