Planeswalker Equipment

Custom Cards forum

There's so many things you can attach to creatures to help stop them biting the dust but nothing to save planeswalkers from the same fate.

It would be nice to be able to equip a planeswalker with something that gave it hexproof etc, this way you might actually get to use their top abilities.

My suggestion would be for a new card type specifically for planeswalker equipment I.e. that can only be attached to planeswalkers and nothing else, to allow them to be bolstered a bit.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some good planeswalker equipment?

A planeswalker equipment would be...extremely fiddly rules wise but in saying that, the idea of an artifact or an enchantment that has some kind of effect that helps planeswalkers would be seriously freaking cool.

Something along the lines of;

Planar bonds 1WW

Enchantment Whenever a planeswalker you control would be dealt damage, prevent 1 of that damage

Really there are cards which already help stop some things.. i.e. giving the player hexproof Aegis of the Gods or not being able to be targeted Leyline of Sanctity . This prevents direct damage spells from hitting the PWs since they have to target the player first and get redirected to the PW.

I think some PW equipment abilities which would be good are the following:Indestructible - make it like a 5 or 6 CMC card (Stops Abrupt Decay type cards)Hexproof for the PW itself - 4 or 5 CMC (Stops Oblivion Ring type cards)Something which states that loyalty counters cannot be removed by creatures opponents control. - 3-4 CMC (Stops Vampire Hexmage type cards)

On top of those abilities, you can even mess around with other abilities, like, "Whenever you activate an ability on ~, add a loyalty counter." or "Whenever you activate an ability on ~, copy the effect."

I honestly think auras with "enchant planeswalker" would work the best for this idea, and if you do an aura, then one could be "when ~ is put into a graveyard from play, return it to the battlefield under your control."

You know, it would be cool if enchantments which already affected the player could affect a planeswalker instead. Give a planeswalker Mirror Sheen .

Honestly, the idea is cool, and definitely playable, but I think PW's are already extremely powerful. I think they are balanced well enough as is. giving them hexproof means that Hero's Downfall /Dreadbore /Fated Conflagration wouldn't be able to kill them. that would make them way too strong. granted, I do think there are some that would be good. not too powerful, but strong enough to be played and effective

What you really want is an aura that gives them hexproof as indestructible really doesn't do much to help them

It could also read ''If enchanted PW would be reduced to less than 1 loyalty counter, it is reduced to 1 instead.'' Which would be pretty op

An enchantment could be pay 3, enchanted planeswalker becomes an X/X creature where X is its loyalty until end of turn, pay an additional 3 mana to add a loyalty counter and the enchantment itself could be around 4/5 cmc.

With this you have the chance of increasing the loyalty if you have enough mana but at the risk of turning the planeswalker into a creature and opening it up to being targeted as such.

Interplanar Chaos

7c

Enchantment

"if a planeswalker you control would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, search your library for a planeswalker with the same name as that one, put it into play with 1 less loyalty counter, and shuffle your library (Interplanar Chaos cannot cause a planewalker enter the battlefield with less than 1 loyalty counter, if it does, it has 1 loyalty counter instead)"
