I just threw these guys together quickly. What do you think?

What would you do to tone his +1 down and beef his -1 up? Maybe switch the two around?

I like Athell. Nicely balanced & fits the assigned colors, not to mention forcing it to be used in a specific fashion to start.

Athell should start with 4 loyalty, perhaps 3. his ult is nice but not game changing, unlike Lantithors

I agree with 3 loyalty on Athell. It'd allow it to function as a near- Abrupt Decay . Makes for a nice combat trick vs hydras or blitz.

Ok, so I'll boost Athell's starting loyalty to 3. What to do about Lantithor though? After looking at his +1 again, I realise just how OP it is. As pointed out before, his -1 is kinda rubbish as well. How would you guys fix these?

I'd toss the -1 completely. It's a sorcery speed Silence . I'd shoot for something closer to restricting their options, such as limiting what type of spell, the cmc of the spells, or maybe a semi-restricted Detain (i.e.: Creature, nonland noncreature, etc)?
As for the +1; It feels too Izzet. I'm not sure what to replace it with/how to alter it, but I feel it could only be fair as a -3 if starts at 3 (Maybe at a -4 in it's current state), and needs to be either instants or sorceries, not both.

With Athell's minus ability being available as it hits the board it becomes a sorcery speed Smother . It's decent but not so strong that it's dangerous. Becomes a lot less relevant in the late game but in UB who cares? There should be enough removal to handle anything bigger at that point.
Would Lantithor's + ability be in flavor as "until your next upkeep spells your opponents cast 1 more to cast." It could play the same way as the Silence effect but it's less of a nut-shot. Then you could make his -1 the current +1. It's less reusable at that point. The walker becomes a reason to play control at that point but not so dependable.

I'm going to disagree with most of the people here and say that Lantithor's +1 is perfectly fine as it is. Knocking 1 mana off of a spell is not gamebreaking, Goblin Electromancer does it in the 2 spot. His -1 is a little weak though. Maybe something like "until your next upkeep target opponent can't cast noncreature spells." It seems like it fits for a white-blue walker, and if necessary you can up it to a -2. I would also suggest you change the second clause of the ultimate to simply "Your opponents can only cast spells any time they could cast a sorcery."

I feel that thematically, Athell's ultimate doesn't really fit. His first 2 abilities make me think he's an assassin, but his ult screams mind mage. I think something like "-6: You get an emblem with "Creatures you control have T: Destroy target tapped creature."

I like his ultimate as is. He's an assassin, but he's also a blue mage and a master of subterfuge, so he is able to control others. Alternatively, you can think of it as him recruiting and training a new assassin, thus why your new creature suddenly becomes more stealthy. I haven't really come up with a backstory for him (or Lantithor), so you can really think of it as either.

I think that Lantithor's ultimate is really underwhelming. It only becomes relevant in a control match-up where your opponent is trying to cast spells against you on your turn. Against aggro, combo, or anything else for that matter, you would lose so much investment from your planeswalker for nothing. If you're going to have such a weak ultimate for him, you should just not have an ultimate and make him more of a toolbox walker and have a weaker ability with a smaller cost for 3rd ability that helps with card advantage somehow.
As for Athel... if you made his starting loyalty, he'd be almost perfect.

if you made his starting loyalty 3, he'd be perfect. I don't know why it omitted the number last time.

lantithor's plus 1 is ridiculousy OP, it turns Counter into Counterspell just as an example, his -1 only seems useful in a control matchup and his ultimate looks like fun. i wish it was real but at the same time i think literally everyone would play control.
