Snow Covered Lands vs Basic Lands

Ok, I noticed quite a few top EDH players use Snow-Covered lands, with none to very little interaction with the fact they are Snow Covered. I know there are cards taht interact with them from ice age, such as Thermokarst and Icequake which do so negatively for the controller of the land.

I can appreciate the fact that the negative interaction is near non-existent in today's game and even when it was around minimal.

Is the only reason people use snow-covered lands is to be unique or are there other benefits that basic lands do not have?

They have the benefit of more likely only helping you when you play Extraplanar Lens . If they don't have snow lands, they don't get the benefit.

It's all about that Extraplanar Lens buff that applies only to them (although those same good EDH players know this and use Snow-Covered lands themselves. Strata Scythe could be another example. Scrying Sheets is one of the best reasons for it. Also they are very pretty to look at lol

other than their play effects that are a possibility I would also like to note I have noticed people play them simply because they are unique and they are worth 4 times as much as a regular land (in mint condition). some people just like having expensive things....
