How many should I run in my EDH deck? Like, what's the standard number of lands a EDH deck does run?

As a general rule, I start with 36 and modify it from there.

It might be beneficial for us to see a deck list, in order to answer more specifically.

37-40 is the recommended number, but it can vary significantly based on the deck.

37 is an ugly looking number. 36 is much more sexy.

It was a joke... I just have number ocd. I have to have things at even numbers, or intervals of three. Otherwise... I can't focus on anything at all.

Generaly, 38 is my magic number. Even if the deck is full of ramp spells. Ramp spells are there so you play big spells faster, not so you can lower your landcount. You could go to 36-34 if the mana curve is realy low, or if you have plenty (like 7-8) mana rocks. Keep in mind that even if EDH is slower than other formats, you don't want to be that guy with only 4 lands on turn 7 when your opponents start casting praetors and such..... Also, there is so much removal that mana rocks are not always as reliable as lands.

vampirelazarus - But 37 is prime! But 36 is the square of 6! But 37 is a member of the pythagorean triple (12,35,37)! But 36 is a triangular number! But...but...but...AAAARRRGGHH! Mind Burst

I usually aim for 37 or 38 and then drop it down to 35 because of not wanting to cut things and relying on partial paris. When I have slipped down to 34 I have paid for it!

I have the same thing with even/odd numbers vampirelazarus, especially with the volume control. I must have it even, it bugs me when it's odd.

Can kind of depend on your curve. I only run 33 in my Shadowborn Apostle EDH, though it could use more. Curve is up to 9, and that card is only meant to drop late game.

Par for an EDH is 33/33/33, and that's lands/creatures/spells. You need to look at the CMC curve of all your cards and determine to run more than par. Higher the curve, higher the amount of lands. You also need to factor in how much land fetch (like Armillary Sphere) you want to use: none = more lands, a lot = less lands. I run at most 36 lands in 1 of my 6 decks, and that's mono-green, because I don't want to get flooded with lands.

It really depends on you mana curve, and how much you do to ramp and search for mana. I have one deck where I ran 33, and now still only run 34, and never have an issue. In another deck, I run 36-37, and still sometimes have trouble. It really matters how many cards you have to search for lands or to ramp. In Jund, I love all the mana scry and Orcish Lumberjack , and/or mana amps. In other colors that do not include green, there are still cards. Weathered Wayfarer in white, and Journeyer's Kite among others as artifacts.

It really depends on curve and how many mana rocks you etc., but I think in generally people have too few lands in their EDH decks cause they want more cool cards. If you're hyper low curve and no more than two colors go for 34-35, if you're a highly controlling deck that wants to keep hitting land drops nothing is wrong with going 40-42. However for an average deck I think 37-38 is the sweet spot :)
