How do you name your EDH deck?

Commander (EDH) forum

While musing over possible names for my Sygg, River Guide deck, I began to wonder how other people make their deck names. So... Do you name it after the general/commander? Something about your commander? Do you name it after some sort of theme in your deck? Do you even name the deck at all?

Also, I'm just curious. What's your favorite EDH deck name you made?

Some people like to name their decks after relevant idioms. Like well known expressions/phrases.

Some people just name it after the commander.

It's the person, really.

I like to name some of my decks after movie quotes.

I just named my deck for what it does. My commander is Vorel of the Hull Clade , and I just put counters everywhere. Hence why my deck is called Counters Counters Everywhere.

I used to rack my brain on what to call my decks. Then I stopped caring XD. Now I have a zombie deck named "BRAINZ", a Basandra, Battle Seraph deck called "Forward March", and other cliche things like that

I like to name them after the theme. I have dragon, Sliver, and Saproling decks, respectively named (shameless advertisement is shameless) Excuse Me, But There's A Dragon Eating Your Face, There Is No God. There Is Only The Slivers, and Dude, You Just Got Crushed by Plants.

My favorite deck name is Mayael the Chubby Chaser. It's her name, but with a common slang term, chubby chaser, plugged in because of her ability.

There is a Friday Nights episode on commander and they have some hilarious deck names.

I generally pick a witty, well-known, or otherwise interesting title for my decks because such titles are conducive to generating more views and discussion.

You've all got some really interesting and creative approaches to deck-naming. I was curious because I felt that a deck name is important; because people will generally have no idea what you're deck-cycling just by the deck name and commander/feature card alone. You need something to get their attention, or encourage them to look at your deck.

My deck names are usually references, or describe the deck as a whole.

For example, this deck is a reference, comparing evolve to Pokemon:

deck chart Gotta Catch 'em All! (UPDATE)

SCORE: 47 | 16 COMMENTS | 8055 VIEWS

And this deck describes what it does:

deck chart Five-color Beatdown and Reanimator

While not the most creative, yes, they draw attention to the deck (as seen by the view count) and they sum it up pretty well.

I tend to call them whatever until a name sticks. Sometimes that's commander based sometimes that's not.

For example my deck with Tajic, Blade of the Legion as general became Tajic Johnson. My Sliver Overlord deck is just known as That Slivers Deck in my play group. Sometimes a explicative is put in between "that" and "slivers".

I happen to live in an old Cotton Mill Town so Lazav's deck is sometimes called Mill Town.

I often have different names here on the site than those that evolve in real life because sometimes I feel like a total dork saying "I'm playing 'There's a Sliver for That' tonight."

In your case, I would search "river" and "guide" for idioms, expressions, or famous quotes. :D

Usually I use a quote or reference having to do with the deck in some way. My elf deck is called Go Not to the Elves for Counsel

I also look at lore behind the general or the deck's major plays.

If there isn't enough lore or the lore is too anything for my taste, I use a silly name like Scion is RawrFaced! or maybe Kaalia Demands Free Hugs

I am terrible with names! Just in general ... forgetting them, mixing them up, making them up, pronouncing them correctly the first time I read them - terrible.

I never seem happy with mine so I feel free to simply keep changing them indefinitely. I have come to like adding some basic info in parentheses after my attempt at a name to clarify the type of deck it is (format, hub, commander, etc.) so that it is easy to pick out in some of the tappedout comment lists.

Mine is very simple. Order 66 (Clone Army). Reason- I use a whole bunch of clone cards, Lazav, Dimir Mastermind reminded me of Emperor/Senetor Palaptine, Order 66 is the secret command given to the Clone Army to wipe out all Jedi. Simple

I just name my decks after how I prefer to play them.

Kaalia is all about generating card advantage (usually through big fat creatures.)

Damia is all about "battlecruiser" magic - BIG stuff going down.

Lady Evangela is my "Mistress of Fog" Lands.

etc...

its all about how you personalize your own decks; or just describing them before people click through to view them.
