I'm thinking of trying to get into EDH myself and to get my playgroup to join me. For now the only way to do it would seem to be to buy a pre-made edh deck made by wizards.
Are any competitive? fun? decent value?
Political Puppets is also not EDH-legal because of Trade Secrets.

Yeah, that's true, I totally forgot that was even Political Puppets, TBH.

I'm partial to the 2014 "FORGED IN STONE" deck featuring Nahiri, the Lithomancer myself. It's only $30-$35 on the shelf at most stores (including your local Target).

BUILT FROM SCRAP 2014 Red Precon is very good.
The Grixis (Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge deck) and the Jund (Prossh, Skyraider of Kher) from 2013 were also pretty fun.

I had a bit of fun with Marath, Will of the Wild's deck from 2013 (Nature of the Beast). That is, if you like ramp/beatdown/Beast tribal.
Sworn to Darkness from 2014, on the other hand, works very well. In fact, the deck is one of the monoblack decks I use (although it is THE rarest list I'll ever use due to how outgunned I would be in the future). From there, though, mono black is devastating and a force to be reckoned with once perfectly tuned.

If you're trying to get a group of people into commander, you can possibly look into sets of the commander decks. That's what we did with C14 and 5 of my friends each split the total cost, which saved from the individual prices. Just checking 1 site while writing this I saw the full set of C14 for $120 and C13 for $110. That's not bad split 5 ways.

Either get the Grixis one from 2013, or C14 ones. They're all pretty fun. Not super competitive but you can get some decent generals and/or just use your own cards to build them up along with the deck.

C14 is probably the cheapest out of the sets and easiest to obtain. I would consider your group buying those. Make sure you grab the Red or Black one IMO they are the strongest out of the box.

The 2011 Precons were pretty great, most notably Heavenly Inferno, due to Kaalia being the flagship General. However, these decks still together have gotten kind of dumb in price, so I guess if you have the Money, they are all decent. The 2013 and 2014 ones are just weaker than then the 2011 ones. Note, don't buy Political Puppets, that deck is bad and only costs money because of Flusterstorm being in the deck.
