Gisela the Broken Blade Voltron?

Commander Deck Help forum

Is the new Gisela good enough to be a voltron commander on her own? With flying, first strike, and lifelink on a solid 4/3 for 2WW body, she seems very efficiently costed for the strategy but I want your opinions. I'm personally going to give her a shot.

Personally, if I wanted a white general, I'd go with Odric, Lunarch Marshal and the new Gisela in the 99.

1/3 land, 1/3 beefy enchantments, 1/3 cool creatures with cool abilities and other stuff, voltron all the things.

I would still prefer Eight-and-a-Half-Tails as my Voltron commander.

I tend to give Gisela a chance in my Sisay deck however. But then I have to add 2 new cards and believe Bruna is too weak on her own. Doubts....

I plan on skipping Bruna entirely. While the meld mechanic seems cool, it just reminds me too much of yugioh. Gotta give R&D credit though, Brisela is going to be nuts in commander.

She seems entirely too weak to be used as a Voltron Commander. She doesn't really have useful abilities to be used like that.

What I was sad about, neither Gisela nor Bruna seem good enough to put in to my Kaalia deck. I was hoping they would be good enough that Kaalia would throw a big bad Eldrazi Angel at people's faces but that doesn't appear to be the case.

The power level on everything is so low in this set. It really makes me sad.

What would you think about both cards in a Captain Sisay EDH deck iAzire? They can be both tutored and one can save the other if she ends up in the graveyard too soon. Play the biggest one as the second one.

But it takes 2 turns to find them normally and it feels abit slow. But it brings out a monster that really hurts blue control. Which is pretty active in my meta.

I am still undecided....

It could be better for Captain Sisay. The main thing that scares me away is the fact that Kaalia of the Vast puts them into play. Bruna's ability only activates on cast. Kaalia can't take advantage of that and at a CMC of 7, it doesn't seem worth running to me.

Captain Sisay could take more advantage of the two of them. You just need to ramp hard enough that the 7 CMC can be cast early enough.

Ok, I'm convinced. Gisela the Broken Blade is pretty bad. Are there any commanders I can make a voltron deck around that I don't have to sell my kidney for? I only ask because I'm currently in college and I'm ramen and hotdogs level broke.

Yeah, I built my Sydri deck off the profits of an Expedition. Compared to other decks in my local meta, the $280 my Sydri deck costed me was chump change. I'm just looking for a deck I can start building and continue working on over time. Right now I'm kinda looking at 8.5 tails.

TheTindell179 I suggest finding a Commander you like, print the entire deck out on regular printer paper. Sleeve up some cards and put your Proxies in front of them.

That will allow you to play/test a deck without spending a dime. You can do this numerous times to find what you like.

Most casual players shouldn't care. Just tell them you are testing before buying. Most people should understand.

When you find something you like, buy those cards, trade for them, etc.

Aurelia, the Warleader is super fun and a lot of cards are cheap

I play a Rafiq of the Many voltron EDH was around 100 to pick up the basic stuff. now im slowly upgrading it in a more competitive deck. super fun. also the colors you get access to make it easy to do anything you really want to with the deck. green ramp, white protection/removal, blue shenanigans. its where I started, though another commander I have heard great things about in voltron is Isamaru, Hound of Konda. T1 commander is always a threat. and with a starting CMC of makes it relatively easy to keep up with commander tax when/if he gets removed.
