Doubling Season or Exalted Sunborn?

Commander Deck Help forum

I have a copy of Doubling Season in my Ghired, Conclave Exilefoil EDH deck, but I am considering replacing that card with Exalted Sunborn, since the creature has greater synergy with the deck than does the enchantment. This deck does contain five cards that place counters on permanents, but none of those cards are vital to this deck's strategy, and, since the sunborn is not a legendary creature, I can copy it with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and generate an absurd amount of tokens, with which I could overwhelm my opponents.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I keep Doubling Season in this deck, or replace that card with Exalted Sunborn? I certainly am interested to hear your feedback, on this matter.

If you have a copy, I think you should give Exalted Sunborn a shot. It has the potential for explosive plays, given its Warp cost, which could still leave you mana up for interaction or other game actions. As you mentioned yourself, it would also have more synergy in your deck since it is a creature.

I recently slotted a copy I pulled into my Satya, Aetherflux Genius deck over Mondrak, Glory Dominus. I figured the Warp cost could lead to earlier token copying, & is its own form of protection until you're ready to cast it again on a later turn.

Crow_Umbra, yes, that make sense, to me, so I shall wait an see if other users share the opinion, as well, before I make my final decision, on this matter.

It feels so weird to second the recommendation of removing a doubling season from a token deck but yeah, I agree with Crow. As a creature it can be more vulnerable to removal but it also, as you point out, have additional synergy in your deck that an enchantment doesn't.

Simply being able to play a creature that could block instead of an enchantment that won't always do something the turn you play it is surprisingly strong in itself... Let alone how many games I've taken someone out or been taken out by a random flyer xD
