Bant edh options/opinions

Commander Deck Help forum

I have Jenara, Asura of War and I have to admit my go to things in EDH is tribal. Upon that same thought I've been told tribal typicaly just that great. Is that due to the creature type of said tribal, or is it just bad?

Now I have a voltron deck with in green white with Sigarda, Host of Herons . My slew of questions is for the interest of I honestly have a bias for tribal, I've played elves both in standar and modern so yeah im biased. My question(s) are is Jenara, Asura of War "good/great" as an overall 3 color tribal and if so what am i playing the blue for, just draw spells and the occasional counter spell?

Is she a beater general in a mid range flicker deck? Or as ive seen here and there and human style build(aggro) or a counters style deck?.

Also bant voltron ?? Im just worried about if its decent tribal not to overload it on just generic angels that may not be too too great and just act as a place holder. I just feel jenar aura of war isnt too bad in an angel deck...turn 2 if you have a mana dork if not turn 3 3/3 that next turn you can pump and make them deal with it

Jenara, Asura of War isn't a bad voltron commander, however you will probably get more purchase from someone like Rafiq of the Many due to his combat ability.

On the topic of angel tribal, Jenara is probably one of the better commanders since she gives you access to ramp/card advantage. But on the whole, tribal is pretty bad in the hierarchy of deck types, since it leverages creature type over deck synergy.

I also think that exclusively playing tribal decks is lazy deckbuilding, as a lot of them just look like somebody did a gatherer search for a creature type and then slapped a bunch of lands with the top results.

I play Sigarda, Host of Herons as my voltron for the obvious hard to kill aspect even before you built her tall.

I was asking about jenara because it can pump it self but yet loses all the abilties as I would have if I play her as if sigarda.

I agree with the ideology with "lazy deck building" and I think as you put it, a list of "high synergistic" list.

The issue I think with tribal is people just put a shit ton of cards of said type and just cram it with just that... Creatures creatures and more creature, and not "supporting" non creature spells. As an example just because an Angel has a 7 cmc and is a 5/5 (just spitballing) doesnt mean people have to play it. That's were I agree because i feel people just put every available creature in a deck and it flops lol.

Its either a thought out tribal or like I was asking a harden scales bant creature deck??

So I guess we're on topic of Jenara, Asura of War "vs" Sigarda, Host of Herons voltron

Is it "worth" adding a third color for extra options for auras at the cost of losing a commander that has hexproof and cant be forced to sacrifice. ??

Jenara can pump its self and having an extra color for more card access. And not having sigardas protection.

Or sigarda for her obvious hard to deal with status but limited card pool .

Because of Sigarda's ability, you can lean a lot more heavily into the enchantress theme with a lot less fear of reprisal (since she's really hard to kill). This provides the deck with a nice card advantage suite, however you're primarily going to use enchantments to buff her.

For Jenara, because you don't have the same kind of protection for your commander, you will be running more equipment, however you get access to blue which provides you unconditional card advantage, as well as counterspells.

I think Jenara is goingto be a bit less linear (not to mention she gives you an infinite mana outlet, albeit a crappy one), however I think Sigarda will be generally more explosive out the gate since oyu have a sole focus of enchanting her up.

This means it just comes down to play style.

Infinite mana outlet?? What cards

Also the inly bennifit I see with jenara is as you said card draw and counter spells. However I wouldn't be running alot of counter magic just a few so if I have it I got it. And blue for a few extra enchantments

Adding blue is only better if you're going to abuse it, going tribal isn't going to abuse blue, at least Jen isn't going to be the best option if you do want to go tribal elves with bant. Derevi, Empyrial Tactician or the upcoming Chulane, Teller of Tales both will probably serve you better with tribal as they both have good interactions with going wide on tribal.

But for good honest beats ol siggy is still great, I do feel my version of it, The Heron Marked Master, maybe lacking in some places, like I need more removal or ramp, or was it graveyard hate I need. Though honestly my biggest dilemma is if I should use the signed foil original printing copy I have or the box topper one.

But in either case you can always just save the decklists on this site and if you use the same sleeves semi easily swap the shared cards between the two decks if it's a question of where to put your g/w staples where.

I may have mis spoke but when I said elf tribal it wasn't for that I wanted to play 3 color elf tribal it was ive loved tribal back when I played it in modern and standard, I was wondering if 3 color angel tribal was viable in EDH. I referenced elf tribal and jenara too close in the example but I'm asking about jenara as NOT elf tribal general but as angel tribal.

(Other jenara general decks) 2nd as bant voltron 3rd as bant +1/+1 counters style. And now 4th I just saw a bant superfriends/proliferate deck.

oh angel tribal isn't viable, you could build a kinda mean bant stax deck with angel tribal, but it will be slow as the majority of angels in the game are expensive to cast, but I guess it's common enough with jana edhrec has a filter for it. But again derevi and chulane both would probably work with angel tribal than jana, kaalia is a very common angel tribal and she lacks the angel type, card or mana advantage source is a bit too good for commander to not play over something on tribe but lacks any sort of advantage.

I totally support this creature as a commander. She'd make a great angel tribal voltron. You could run a ton off voltron Angels like Bruna and that one just mentioned. It would be epic
