Help! I woke up with a nasty cold this morning -- sore muscles, runny nose, raw throat.
Now this isn't my first rodeo but I wanted to ask if anyone had any super secret techniques for rapid recovery. I'm willing to try anything that isn't obviously insane.
Anyone have any ideas?

Drink lots of water, like liters and liters of the stuff.
Mix some salt with warm water and pour it into your nose. It should come out the other nostril and clean out your sinuses a little.
Also get lots of sleep. Sadly no magic fixes, but they should speed up your recovery

Hot Tottie. Basically brew your favorite herbal tea (don't want black tea you want to be able to sleep off the sickness too) add a couple of tablespoons of honey and a shot or two of whiskey. Quaff and drift off to sleep. Repeat as necessary but no more than every 2 hours.

Sleep it, sweat it, and pee it out. Lots and lots of water, or better: isotonic drinks like Gatorade and the such.
Drink hot herbal teas with honey and lemon. Stay in a quiet dark room and do your best to sleep, or at least rest.
Stay the hell away from electronic devices, they will give you a headache rather quickly and will prevent you from falling asleep.
EDIT: In case you have a fever, keep a cooler or a bowl with ice packs (those big ones for camping and such) and 2 wet towels. Cool them both, and then keep one on your forehead until you feel no relief. Then switch with the other that's cooling. Rinse and repeat.

I agree that sleep is the way to go.
Stay in bed and sleep all day, and you be back to your old self the day after.

Good advices all around, gang -- thanks a lot! I'm going to double down on these good strategies and hopefully I'll be on the mend in short order.

can I point out some of this advice is medically wring -
don't drink liters of plain water. it causes a loss of essential nutrients through osmosis. drink things like isotonic drinks or just generally sugary things.
don't cool a fever with ice. it commonly causes shivering and shivering raises your core temperature more than the ice can cool. shivering is also really tiring and when you're tired you can't fight infection.

The miraculous headwear is right. Keep your mind off the cold and it will go away. Also, just asking, wouldn't the sentence "I want to put a hyphen between the words Fish and And and And and Chips in my Fish-And-Chips sign," have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before Fish, and between Fish and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and Chips, as well as after Chips?

For fuck's sake TheNextRedDude, you gave me a headache with that thing!!
Christ! You might kill the sick guy

I'm more amused that he lost track of where he was in the sentence and added 8 additional ands to the 13 ands in a row.

I am feeling...not worse today. So that's good. Throat is less raw. Nose is still runny. Could be worse. I'll continue to slam Gatorades and vitamins today. I'm gonna beat this!

Don't forget tea and honey (and whiskey if not at work/school/driving It may make me sound like a lush but the alcohol does wonders for killing off the nasties in your throat and relaxing you so your body can fight off the rest of the invaders).

I'll spike my tea when I get home. Sounds like a good plan!
December 1, 2015 12:57 p.m.
In my experience sore throat is step one of cold, runny nose is next, then comes blocked nose, and eventually end of cold.
It's like upkeep, main phase, combat, second main, end step.
Consider yourself in the combat phase.

Just make sure you don't combo out and take infinite turns. You'll have a cold forever.

Also, try to remember it is your own immune system fighting the cold, not the cold itself, causing the symptoms. It's all your fault.
December 1, 2015 2:44 p.m.
So you are playing your cold.
What sort of Opponent is it?
Aggro for gaining the upper hand in the first place?
Control for holding you in its grip for so long?
Beat down for the amount of stick you have to take from it while plowing through your day?
Or some kind of Vile Aggregate of evil stuff ...

It would probably be Mono Black Devotion. The Pack Rats and Desecration Demons are pretty bad, but you just need a Supreme Verdict for the Immune system.

I think it is a midrange cold. It keeps me off of my gameplan (going to work, exercising on turns 2-3), and then wants to drop threats late in the game (lack of sleep; headaches) until I give up. I sideboarded a lot of vitamins and fluids, as well as whiskey-laced herbal tea. I think it's working!
December 1, 2015 6:35 p.m.
Gidgetimer says... #28
Not many midrange colds expect the whiskey-laced tea plan. The drowsiness and blood vessel dilation effects actively combat its late game threats. The vitamins and fluids should help you be more aggressive in the early game and maybe you will win game 3 before the cold has a chance to react.

Make sure to leave a good amount of White blood cell creatures up to block, as they have great blocking stats and usually protection from Viruses. You want to play defensive against these kinds of play styles. Get rid of the first few threats and you can weather out the rest of the game.

Guys, I'm headed to Game 3 against this cold. I have a sideboard plan that works, and I don't think I'm going to have to go to turns against it. Feeling quite a bit better, one more day and I think I'll be back in fighting form!
December 3, 2015 12:30 p.m.
TheNextRedDude says... #32
Remember: while Runny Nose is threatening, it can't actually deal significant damage. Sore Throat should be the main target of you removal. Did you sideboard in lots of fluids?
December 3, 2015 4:06 p.m.
JakeHarlow says... #33
Yeah, those vitamins and Gatorades are doing the trick. The cold is playing without a sideboard, it seems.

What is this, Casual? This cold clearly doesn't know the meta.
December 3, 2015 6:18 p.m.
You be careful. Sometimes these colds can be sneaky.
Just when you think you've got them under Control ... BAM!! phlem in the back of the throat.
December 4, 2015 12:42 p.m.
TheNextRedDude says... #36
Phlegm is no match for a(n) (insert format) deck that gets out (OP creature in format) on turn (fastest you can get out OP creature).
ChiefBell says... #2
vitamin c
echinacea
both are scientifically proven to decrease recovery time with colds.
