FNM The 3-2 Curse —May 22, 2013
Welp, went 3-2 again this week.
M1: 1-1 G/R midrange-ish deck. I trampled him in game 1 in under 5 minutes. Game 2 I mulled to 5 and got stop on 3 land, only 1 of which was red. Game 3 I flooded terribly -overall, a very frustrating match
M2: 2-0 grixis control. I rolled over him in 10 minutes. He scooped Game 1 on T4 after my rakos cackler unleashed, ash zealot, spike jester, and falkenrath aristocrat.
M3: 2-1 homebrew I just remember being hit with his combo: whispering madness, notion thief, and laboratory maniac
M4: 2-0 against a young kid. Can't remember his deck (maybe I need to do these write ups sooner...and/or get more sleep :-) )
M5: 2-0 white humans. I rolled over him when he mana screwed game 1 and when he was too slow game 2
Anyways, last FNM for 1 month until I'm back from my trip!
mrbloo1848: Exactly. I've done a pretty good job of learning and enacting what you mentioned. You're the 1st to tell me about waiting to cast until after combat, but I was able to pick it up from watching others play. It's a process for sure :)

A key to beating control decks as an aggro deck is to not overextend. You don't have the luxury of white to run Boros Charm or Frontline Medic so you have to be careful on when to cast your creatures. Emptying out your hand in the first few turns to get a few more damage in may sound attractive, until you get wiped the next turn and end up in topdeck mode. Also, if you don't already, ATTACK BEFORE CASTING ANYTHING ELSE IF POSSIBLE. (of course this has a fee exceptions like Hellrider and the knights and such) This keeps your mana open for tricks and effects and that way your opponent will have to work with what's on the board before he/she sees what you're casting in the second main phase. He may decide to use a kill spell on that annoying Stromkirk Noble only to see Boros Reckoner resolve right after and only holding burn spells in hand. Same strategy goes with every other deck as well. Order of play makes a huge difference in how a game turns out and it takes time to get to that point where you are always a few turns ahead of your opponent in terms of planning. Good job on the FNM!
