Polymorphable Creatures —Dec. 16, 2020

So, not sure if I love what I cheat out. The stopping of attacks is likely to be very helpful vs the type of decks this deck should be facing off against, but vs stronger decks it's nearly dead cards, as not many need to attack to beat me, and few cEDH decks fear Talrand's drakes. When I get my hands on them, Sphinx of the Second Sun and Consecrated Sphinx are not irrelevant together, likely meaning I will have many spells to cast, and plenty of mana to work with, meaning I can start swarming out while stiill holding up mana. Thus, I like these more than the Stormtide 'combo'. I have Second Sun already, but I'm not buying another Consecrated before the others arrive, so it'll likely be awhile, which makes me wonder if Tidespout is better than Second Sun. I feel like the bouncing is probably better, and the extra untap without Consecrated feeding it cards will likely just mean I can play a spell and a counter, which is rather 'meh' for all the work of Polymorphing. I guess I'll leave this as is for now.

Edit: Well, having played this build a bit, it seems to work out better than the original plan, and the deck features enough answers at the moment to not usually feel helpless, despite being mono coloured. The Sphinxes have a big heap of synergy together, and Stormtide is usually a priority target to remove, but so are all of my creatures. I have one spell that can recur my creatures (eventually), not sure this is really fast enough/good enough, but in mono-blue recursion isn't our strongest suit. If I can get out my pile, I can usually count on drawing counters though, and should always have the mana open to play multiple, so it's probably safer than it sounds, but we'll see. It's not like I'm not also dealing damage the whole time, Drakes do add up if they can't be wiped. It worth noting that if all my creatures are in the yard, I can use Proteus Staff to put Stream of Thought on top to draw, which is a nice perk. I feel like this will have to do, short of a major rebuild that I don't think is needed. Should I be running Buried Ruin in here? I suspect yes, since I do lean hard on artifacts, and that is still a land. Also spit-balling Helm of Possession to steal even more creatures, but the deck doesn't have a way to sac the creature, so it might not be ideal, but the deck is good at making tokens, which synergizes nicely. Already have Vedalken Shackles in, but this effect is usually quiet useful, and sometimes the land restriction can matter.

I’m looking at your cipher spells, as recommended. I’m going to give this mechanic a try. It looks interesting and resourceful. Thanks!
