Peerless Samurai
Creature — Human Samurai
Menace (This creature can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.)
Whenever a Samurai or Warrior you control attacks alone, the next spell you cast this turn costs less to cast.

Hey there, I saw your post on Reddit and figured I'd leave my suggestions here. I think for the most part, the majority of the deck is solid, but you can likely swap out Heiko Yamazaki, the General, Asari Captain, Peerless Samurai, Raiyuu, Storm's Edge, Selfless Samurai, and Tempered in Solitude, since all of those only care about solo attacking Warriors or Samurai, or solo creatures in the case of Tempered in Solitude. From having played Isshin a lot, the deck wants to swing out with more than one creature a lot of the time, and these cards all feel at odds with the rest of your deck.
Some potential swaps that can still fit your budget:
-
Scapegoat - Mana efficient and budget friendly board protection. I had this in for a while before Clever Concealment was printed.
-
Signal Pest - Very solid one drop for just about any Isshin list.
-
Rakdos Signet - Your ramp is a little light, 1-2 more rocks can help.
-
Soul Partition - Pulls excellent double duty as a either a removal piece or can protect one of your permanents.
-
Elturel Survivors - Something I've wanted to find a slot for in my Isshin deck, but haven't been able to.
-
Scrappy Bruiser - A new piece of tech from MOM that's meant to synergize more with Backup, but can be a pseudo protective piece here.

Totally understandable Althuran. Isshin can do a lot with attack triggers, I think I should have reframed my question a bit more specifically. Are you looking to:
- Create a swarm of token creatures using attack triggers
- Make use of attack triggers when single creatures attack in combat, such as Exalted effects like Akrasan Squire, or Peerless Samurai
- Pillow fort effects and Goad control with things like Marchesa's Decree, Revenge of Ravens, Caltrops, and Vengeful Ancestor
- Dungeon Venturing value from stuff like White Plume Adventurer, Nadaar, Selfless Paladin, or Triumphant Adventurer
- Extra combat steps with things like Karlach, Fury of Avernus or Aurelia, the Warleader
- A mix of all of the above
From my own experience playing Isshin, I think he's strongest when you focus on one of the avenues above, and sprinkle in bits of the other avenues for support, especially given what you tend to encounter in your playgroup or local meta.
Phyrexian Arena being cheaper is definitely nice. I will say though that Arena is at its best when played around turn 2-3 if you can pull it off. In later game it feels kinda clunky to wait a whole turn to draw a card, especially if you are in a position where you need answers more immediately. Tome of Legends does have the need to pay and tap to draw, but the trade off is that you can then be selective with when you draw.
All draw options have drawbacks that make them more or less reliable, as well as faster/slower. I guess it depends which potential drawbacks you are most willing to trade off for in your own play experience.

Hi KBK7101, I think your deck looks pretty solid to start off. I do have some suggestions on cards I think you can eventually upgrade. First few cuts I think you can make safely are:
-
Sigil of Valor, Akki Ronin, Peerless Samurai - These can likely be cut since they only care about a singular Samurai, Warrior, or Creature attacking alone, and I think that goes against the Go-Wide token theme you want to implement.
-
Slumbering Dragon, Blood Reckoning, & Search the Premises - These are for sure meta calls. I cut Pillow Fort effects from my deck because my play group would remove Isshin, then tank through standard triggers, or they'd leave me alone, and I wouldn't get any of the benefits. Your mileage may vary depending on your meta.
-
Velomachus Lorehold Maybe. Mostly because they look for Instants and Sorceries. I do like that they have Haste, so you don't have to wait. Ultimately up to you.
I think all of the stuff in your maybe-board could be swapped in pretty safely. Hopefully once Commissar Severina Raine and Inquisitorial Rosette get some In-Universe printings, you can add them to your consideration.
I'd also highly suggest Plumb the Forbidden, Deadly Dispute, and maaaaybe Liliana's Standard Bearer as some more potential draw options in a token strategy.
Both Purphoros, God of the Forge and Mishra, Claimed by Gix Meld are excellent damage finishers in a token strat (but are definitely expensive upgrades).

I think you can probably cut Raiyuu, Storm's Edge and Peerless Samurai since they're both narrow in focus compared to the rest of your deck.
If you like Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran, I'd recommend checking out Tori D'Avenant, Fury Rider. Zhentarim Bandit is also a neat 2 drop option, especially since its trigger is a "may" ability, letting you opt in or out of the trigger as you'd wish.
Adriana, Captain of the Guard and Professional Face-Breaker are also both helpful if you plan on swinging at multiple opponents each combat.
I hope the suggestions are to your liking. I'd be happy to offer additional feedback if you'd like.

Removed: Ogre Battledriver, Leonin Warleader, Solemn Simulacrum, Godo, Bandit Warlord
Added: Arashin Foremost, Hero of Oxid Ridge, Peerless Samurai, Mangara, the Diplomat
The first three creatures we removed and added were all for efficiency and synergy, as I feel the added creatures are just plain better in this deck that what they replaced.
However, specifically, we took out Godo, Bandit Warlord (even though it kinda hurt), because it really only creates an extra attack for Samurai. We could, however, just not attack with some creatures and save them for the 2nd attack phase Godo would generate, but that doesn't feel efficient and stops our commander from doing what he's here to do. Seeing that we do not have as many Samurai as I initially was hoping for this deck (pitifully few, honestly), Godo just doesn't do very much work here.
In it's place we add in Mangara, the Diplomat, and in a multi-player game we can hopefully generate a bunch of card draw would be fantastic for us. Maybe it won't live long, but that can be said for just about anything, and we never have to actually with him to create the card advantage. Remember, Isshin, Two Heavens as One's ability can double ANY attacking trigger, even if that attacker isn't controlled by us, so long as the actual trigger does belong to us.
