Vesuva Scape shift can vesuva enter as copy?

Asked by kylothian 8 years ago

lets say Scapeshift is causing a forest and Vesuva to enter the battlefield. Can Vesuva enter the battlefield as a copy of that forest since they are entering simultaneously.

No. Vesuva's copy effect (and others like it) is a replacement effect that modifies how it enters the battlefield, meaning it has to be processed before it actually gets to the battlefield. This means the Forest that's entering simultaneously in your example isn't yet on the battlefield at the time you have to choose something to copy.

Rhadamanthus Ok, thankyou. Just for my understanding though it seems like it would work since valakut scape combo triggers. How are they different? It seems like valakut is considered as already on the battlefield and entering it simultaneously for it to work as it does. From that logic i though vesuva could pick a land to copy because it seems like each land is simultaneously already there ,but still entering.

Like Rhadamanthus said: Vesuva uses a replacement effect to modify how it enters the battlefield

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle's ability is a triggered one which will be accurate when it and all of the other lands coming into play with it enter since it uses the information after entering.

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle's ability is a triggered ability (starts with "when/whenever/at"). It triggers right after something enters the battlefield, and so can trigger from Mountains entering the battlefield at the same time as Valakut.
