Veilstone Amulet timing

Asked by pedroedmarcos 4 years ago

Hey there,

I probably already know the answer for this but I want to make sure. If my opponent cast something like a Fatal Push on a creature that I control and I cast something to trigger the amulet to give my creatures hexproof, If creatures enters the battlefield after the trigger resolves, those will not have hexproof right?

You’re actually incorrect.

Continuous effects generated by the resolution of a spell or ability that modify characteristics or change control, only affect objects that are there at the time of resolution.

Continuous effects that DON’T modify characteristics nor change control, but instead modify game rules, will continue to affect the specified objects until the duration is done.

Since Veilstone Amulet is modifying the game rules by making your creatures unable to be targeted this turn, it will continue to apply to creature that enter the battlefield even after the ability has resolved.

611.2c If a continuous effect generated by the resolution of a spell or ability modifies the characteristics or changes the controller of any objects, the set of objects it affects is determined when that continuous effect begins. After that point, the set won’t change. (Note that this works differently than a continuous effect from a static ability.) A continuous effect generated by the resolution of a spell or ability that doesn’t modify the characteristics or change the controller of any objects modifies the rules of the game, so it can affect objects that weren’t affected when that continuous effect began.

Oh, I'm sorry

So the difference between the amulet and Heroic Intervention is that the amulet modifies the rules and the Intervention changes the characteristics of my permanents, so it will only count the permanents that I control at the time it resolves?

Correct. It’s primarily in how the effect is written. Heroic Intervention gives your permanents the abilities Hexproof and Indestructible until end of turn, and this only applies to those permanents in play when the spell resolves.
