Using Mirage Mirror with Metallic Mimic.

Asked by TheGodofNight 6 years ago

If I have a Metallic Mimic (having named constructs) and a Mirage Mirror on the battlefield and then I cast a Foundry Inspector, while the the inspector is on the stack, I activate Mirage Mirror to copy Metallic Mimic, does it copy it as it is on the battlefield, thus allowing Foundry Inspector to enter with 2 +1/+1 counters, or does the Mirage Mirror only copy the Mimic generically as a shapeshifter without the construct type?

I'm sure there is a painfully obvious explanation to this scenario, but I just wanted to confirm it with a ruling.

It won't have any additional effect. A copy effect only copies what's written on the original object. If the original object also happens to be a copy of something, then the copy effect will take that into account as well. In your example the Mirage Mirror will be a Metallic Mimic that doesn't have anything chosen for its first ability (since it didn't enter the battlefield again as it became a copy). That means the second and third abilities won't do anything.
