tapping abilities on the stack

Asked by veritas723 9 years ago

Hello,

I'm sorta a sucker for a gimmick or johny deck.

Thinking of using Kiora's Follower in conjunction with Scourge of Skola Vale

now, say i've got both monster's active/have controlled since beginning of turn, such that i can use their abilities.

Can i tap Kiora's Follower selecting Scourge of Skola Vale as the target, but before that ability resolves, tap Scourge of Skola Vale targeting Kiora's Follower ...last in first out, Scourge of Skola Vale resolves first, sacrificing Kiora's Follower netting 2 +1/+1 counters, and then as the other ability resolves... untapping Scourge of Skola Vale so that Scourge of Skola Vale can swing?

gimmick part is, also pairing this with Gift of Immortality to loop this idea, or with 2 Gift of Immortality in play, doubling down on the counter generating ability, while still having Scourge of Skola Vale ready to swing.

Yes. Abilities on the stack exist independently of their sources, so you can respond to the first ability and still have both resolve.

Also, note that having two Gift of Immortalitys enchanting the same permanent is pointless. Once the permanent has been returned to the battlefield, you can either sacrifice it again before the second Gift of Immortality returns (which would mean the second Gift of Immortality remains in the graveyard because the instance of the creature it would become attached to no longer exists) or after (in which case it is redundant because the first Gift of Immortality can already return the creature again).

@epochalytik yeah... two Gift of Immortality on same critter would be pointless. but was kinda thinking link the other one to like a monstrous Hydra Broodmaster or something, that would have some sort of ETB or LTB trigger that would fit my silly hydra jones
