Sphinx's Tutelage and Serra Avatar

Asked by vishnarg 6 years ago

I control Sphinx's Tutelage and trigger the first ability. My opponent's last card in his deck is Serra Avatar. Can someone give me a breakdown of how this works? Thanks :)

Sphinx's Tutelage's ability will resolve and do as it says, milling your opponent for 2 cards. When Serra Avatar hits the yard, its ability will trigger and be "shuffled" into the library, which in this case is basically just turning it face-down as the library is just that card now.

If it was the only card in their library, the second part of Sphinx's Tutelage's first ability won't happen. Since only one card was milled, there's not another card to share a color with.

Also, if the last two cards in their library were both Serra Avatars what would happen is the ability would mill both of them, then try to mill two more cards and fail because the library was empty. Then each of the Serra Avatars would trigger. First one would shuffle into the library bringing it up to one card, then the other would shuffle into the library bringing it up to two cards.
