Question about Brago trigger with Thragtusk and Progenitor Mimic

Asked by Cradlyto 7 years ago

Good day. I was playing a game recently with my Derevi commander deck. I had Brago, King Eternal; Thragtusk; and Progenitor Mimic on the battlefield. I have heard that when Brago flickers things, they all return to the battlefield at the same time. If I flicker all of these creatures can Progenitor Mimic "see" Thragtusk in order to enter as a copy of it or does the Thragtusk need to remain in play in order for the Progenitor Mimic to copy it?

Thanks in advance!

You can use double square brackets to link cards. It's the easiest way to make sure everyone reading your question understands what's going on: Brago, King Eternal, Thragtusk, Progenitor Mimic.

You have to leave Thragtusk on the battlefield if you want to copy it with Progenitor Mimic in this way.

It's true that "enters the battlefield" triggers can "see" other objects entering at the same time, but that's not what's going on here. The copy ability on the Mimic (and other similar cards) is a replacement effect that modifies how the Mimic enters the battlefield. The game has to process it before the Mimic actually gets to the battlefield, which means you can only choose something that's already on the battlefield before the Mimic enters.

No. The process of choosing what it comes in as happens before it actually enters the battlefield. The creature to copy must already be on the battlefield to be a legal choice.

Also, please link all cards in your question.

Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, Brago, King Eternal, Thragtusk, Progenitor Mimic.
