Is {{Spoils of the Vault}} and {{ Laboratory Maniac}} a combo?

Asked by macster 9 years ago

I was trying to think of modern combo's and came around this. The problem I have with it is that when I go to state based actions I lose from the lose of life and win from the Laboratory Maniac.

Use double hard brackets to link cards, not curly brackets.
Spoils of the Vault
Laboratory Maniac

No, that combo doesn't work. Laboratory Maniac requires you to draw a card from an empty library and at no time do you draw during the resolution of Spoils of the Vault . As such you lose to the SBA of having 0 or less life before you ever have the chance to draw from an empty library.

with Angel's Grace some sort of scry trigger like Serum Visions , and a draw ability you could do it. so you would cast Angel's Grace , then play Serum Visions , srcy both srcy triggers to the bottom, play Spoils of the Vault naming the second to last card, draw your deck, play Laboratory Maniac then something like divination and you win.

Complicated but you could make it work.

Wow you made that way more complicated than it needs to be and even made it not work unless you are running a purely singleton deck.

If you want to FORCE this to work you would need to have Laboratory Maniac out, Spoils of the Vault on your upkeep naming a card that isn't in the deck, and Angel's Grace on top of Spoils of the Vault . This would allow you to win using those 2 cards but is incredibly fragile, in 3 colors, and requires 3 specific cards.

ah you're right it would need to be singleton, I missed that.
