How does Endless Whispers interact with Infernal Offering

Asked by wereotter 7 years ago

Specifically, if I have Endless Whispers on the field and cast Infernal Offering I must first sacrifice a creature, the creature for this example is irrelevant. Let's assume that I sacrifice Vampire Nighthawk to draw two cards for the first part, and then for the second part, can I target that same Vampire Nighthawk to reanimate, and if I do, does the triggered ability from Endless Whispers fizzle at the end of turn since it can no longer see it in the graveyard?

Correct. When the DTA on the nighthawks triggers, the ability can't find the one you brought back in the graveyard so it's removed from the stack and does nothing. The other nighthawk will be brought back under an opponent's control.

There's only one Vampire Nighthawk in this example. So perhaps I worded it poorly, and there are two questions for this instance. Can I target the same creature I sacrificed to the first part of Infernal Offering with the second effect?

That part you mentioned does help with the other question, though. Good to know a reanimated creature can't trigger Endless Whispers.

You can return your Nighthawk with the Offering. When resolving a spell, you do everything that your are told in the order you are told to. When you sac the Nighthawk to the first part, it becomes a card in your graveyard that can be reanimated with the second part. Had the Offering had a weird comma placed in it instead of two abilities, you would need to do it all at once, making it impossible to choose the Nighthawk, as it would not be in your grave yet.
