How does Brawn work?

Asked by UniqueUserID 9 years ago

Brawn seems simple enough but maybe I'm over-thinking this.

Which does it do?

1) As long as Brawn is in my graveyard, all my creatures have Trample. Another Brawn does not need to be in the field.

2) As long as Brawn is in my graveyard AND another Brawn is on the field, all my creatures have trample.

It's the first one.

Usually the abilities on a permanent card only work while it's on the battlefield, but there are exceptions for when the ability either specifically says it works in another zone or would only make sense in another zone. When a card uses its own name in its rules text without saying something like "a card named NN", it means "this specific object, right here". Putting those two concepts together, we see that Brawn's ability only makes sense in the graveyard, so that's where it works.

Remember that you need a Forest on the battlefield in addition to the Brawn in your graveyard. Also, it does not need to be a basic Forest, so something like Breeding Pool also works.
