EDH - Monoblack. Can I use Crypt Champion?

Crypt Champion, In the text it does have a (R) mana cost but the way it is worded it sounds like a reminder text rather than a color identity. Could anyone confirm if the champion is usable in monoB or if the colour identity is B/R?

One important thing to keep in mind about reminder text is that the card would still work in the exact same way regardless of whether or not the reminder text was printed on it. This is why it doesn't count as true rules text.
For example: the Equip ability on Sword of War and Peace works just fine, even though it doesn't have the reminder text that a card like Rogue’s Gloves has. However, Crypt Champion would be a lot different if it that last ability wasn't printed on the card.

Crypt Champion has a red/black color identity. It is a black card, but the red mana symbol adds red to its color identity.
Reminder text is not counted for determining color identity, but reminder text is always in italics and parentheses. See Blind Obedience for example. Because the only black symbol on that card is in the reminder text, it is okay to put it in a monowhite deck. Crypt Champion's final ability, however, is not reminder text.
