EDH - Can a deck take control of an opponents off-color cards and play them?

Asked by Aftertherevolution 7 years ago

I've got an EDH B/U deck in the works ... I've a number of cards that gain control of an opponents cards. Is this legal in EDH if the opponents cards are not my colors?

Ie. The Wretched Stunt Double Identity Thief Hedonist's Trove

Also, with Hedonist's Trove is it legal to play an opponent's land I've acquired if it's a different color? (plains for example)

I think I answered this myself.

Seems the new rules as of Jan allow for generating mana of any color. http://mtgcommander.net/EDH_Root/changelog.php So Hedonist's Trove can go to town I think.

Also, I haven't read anything about restrictions on playing/controlling other players cards, so I am assuming this is legal.

After the changes to rules about mana that you found, the only restrictions related to a card's color identity in EDH/Commander have to do with deck construction. You're allowed to take control of off-color objects and to play off-color lands with Hedonist's Trove.
