Do you have to pay alternate costs for In the Eye of Chaos?

Asked by Phaetion 8 years ago

For Reference: In the Eye of Chaos and Cyclonic Rift (for example).

When I Overload Cyclonic Rift, In the Eye of Chaos will trigger. Would I have to pay an additional 2 or 7 to ensure the Rift would not get countered?

In the Eye of Chaos's ability says "converted mana cost," so you pay the converted mana cost. Cards do only what they say.

To be clear: a card's CMC is always the sum of the mana symbols printed in its normal mana cost. The only way to change a card's CMC is to somehow turn it into a copy of another card with a different mana cost.
