Countering a spell multiple times with Kozilek?

Asked by SmokeyBear15 6 years ago

I have Kozilek, the Great Distortion, and an Archfiend of Ifnir on the battlefield. I have a Walking Ballista and 3 lands in my hand....

Can I cast the Walking Ballista for X=0 and then use Kozilek's ability 3 times to counter it while it's on the stack, in order to trigger Archfiend of Ifnir 3 times?

Yes.

Until spells and abilities actually resolve, you can respond to them, and nothing prevents you from countering a spell a redundant amount of times.

Note that the spell will only be countered once: by the first ability to resolve. It's not technically possible for something to be countered multiple times because he countered object is removed from the stack as part of the countering process. The other two abilities will fizzle, or fail to resolve due to all of their targets being illegal.

Since discarding a card is the cost to activate Kozilek, the Great Distortion's ability, you'll still get all of your Archfiend of Ifnir triggers.
