Can you sac Wild Cantor from your hand for mana?

Wild Cantor says to sacrifice it to add one mana of any color to your pool. Can you sacrifice it from your hand and get that ability?
"Sacrifice" specifically refers to moving a permanent you control from the battlefield to the graveyard. If you could use Wild Cantor's ability from your hand, it would use the word "discard". Look at Faerie Macabre for an example of that.

For free mana from your hand, format allowing, you want Elvish Spirit Guide and Simian Spirit Guide.
Manamorphose makes it into whatever you need.

No. In order to sacrifice something, it must be on the field and under your control. If it allowed you to do it directly from you hand it would say discard.
