Folks this site does not moderate every single post. It is a diverse community and as such theres a chance someone will say something you disagree with or are offended by, and while possibly frustrating this is a part of life and a common occurrence on the Internet. You have two choices: respond or ignore. You are not obligated to tell that person your feelings, and in fact doing so is often more of an intentional attack then was the original comment. If you see something you dont like, just accept there are people out there with different frames of mind and that is okay, and either move on or block the user. What is not okay, and is immature and unproductive, is to then attack that person. Saying your piece and THEN blocking a user is childish. We will always come across people who believe and say things we dont like, and the best way to respond (best meaning an action that brings about the most net happiness and minimizes net suffering) is to just not respond. You cant change other people. Were all here because of a shared interest, and lets try to all keep that focus in mind. Stay on topic, discuss content rather than semantics, and help make this site a positive experience for all users. Lighten up, its a game!

However I must add that from what Ive seen overtly offensive posts/behavior are not tolerated by the sites administrators and users can be punished for not maintaining civility and respect towards other users. I am not an administrator of the site, just a user like the rest of us.

Society already gives the Magic community enough grief/stigmatization, we dont need to give it to each other. Were all just Magic nerds on the same team here!

I am a warrior. I do not fear offensive attacks. Magic the gathering players are not stigmatized. Last time I checked, Magic the Gathering is very popular with people that do drugs, which makes it cool. Everybody knows that people that do drugs are edgy and cool. Personally, I stigmatize people that do drugs, because I think people that do drugs suck, and also generally lose at Magic the Gathering to people that don't do drugs and play Magic the Gathering.

Does all that salt make it easier to swallow your hypocrisy?(rhetorical question) Take your own advice. Ignore it and move on.

The SJW moniker is silly.

If people feel strongly about something, then they do. Labelling them doesn't make their feelings invalid.

If people want to have heated discussions on this site, as long as it doesn't degenerate into name-calling, then I say have at it.

People are allowed to block anyone they like. I've been blocked and I've blocked one other person. The function is there to be used at anyone's discretion.

Knowing when to walk away from an argument is a tricky, but useful, skill to learn. However, so is knowing when to stand your ground.

Discussions are not all about "winning", but it takes a certain maturity to learn that.

I'm not sure what being tough has to do with this. Get off your soap box. No one cares how sophisticated you think you are or how much salt you can throw.

Thanks Argy. You said it better than I could have. Your maturity and courtesy are appreciated. You have restored some of my faith in humanity. Many blessings upon you.

Love how you targeted JUST the SJW's. Nice. That didn't make your post look stupid or anything lol.

November 21, 2017 1:28 p.m.

Snapdisastermage well that is the name given to people that feel they need to police things that others, not necessarily themselves, might be offended by. Who else would it target? If you think something is offensive despite knowing it was not that persons intent to offend, and then attack them for such, you are what we call a SJW and this post is in response to you. If you see something you dont like and just accept that thats a part of life and dont feel youre in a morally superior position and are obliged to intervene, you are not a SJW and the article doesnt apply to you. You know, folks who consider motivation and intent to be more important than potential to offend. If someone is stupid and ignorant thats there problem not yours.

See's Blatant racism. "Oh well it's just a part of life"see's corrupt government "oh well it's just a part of life"*See's starving children "oh well it's just a part of life"

I have a better Idea, Educate yourself. Don't be racist. Don't be insensitive and don't be a jerk and people won't call you out on it :)

If I did decide to become a rapper, I would not go by Masterpeez, I'd be called Pimp Daddy Ku$h.

Are you saying starving children are not found in every society on Earth? Has there ever been a government that wasnt corrupt? Has there ever been a free society in which there was no racism? You see, these are parts of life because they have always been and always be, thats the nature of free will. My question is: what good does screaming about it do? Are you looking to find specific examples and solutions to fix them? If not, youre spinning your wheels. No one condones racism, but some of us see that there will always be racist people and the best way to deal with them is to ignore them. Are you gonna change their mind by calling them out? Can you actually convince a KKK member or neo-Nazi theyre wrong or are bad people for believing what they do? If not, what dare I ask is the point? So you can feel better about yourself? That is not purely altruistic behavior, you must know you cant actually make a change and are still going through the motions for your own sake. So what do we do when we come across blatant racism? Feel pity, teach your children right. Thats about it. Im not condoning it Im saying youre not addressing it in a constructive manner. You angry about starving kids? Well you can lecture people online, assuming they dont care as much as you, or you can donate to charity or support a local food drive or volunteer at a soup kitchen. You see the difference? Both people are upset about it, one is shouting into the wind and the other actually does something. There is no virtue in shouting if youre not also working to make actual, tangible steps to fix it. Youre confused, were not arguing about whether something is wrong or right but rather how best to address it.

We are debating altruism versus egoism, and I am taking a utilitarian stance. Have you studied philosophy at university level? You really shouldnt tell someone to educate themselves when you arent even aware they are not stating opinions but rather concepts studied by philosophers for generations. Read Bentham, then we can talk. Oh, and theres nothing more ignorant than claiming someone else is simply because you are unfamiliar with the subject matter.

November 21, 2017 5:32 p.m.

Were talking about this site by the way, and how to deal with people using adjectives you find distasteful. My point is that it does no good to tell someone they hurt your feelings. They probably dont care.

November 21, 2017 5:53 p.m.

I will simplify it for you. Don't say stupid things, Think before you speak, And people won't call you on it. It is really easy. Also, It does no good to tell people you don't like that they don't put up with your crap, They probably don't care :)

November 21, 2017 6:29 p.m.

You are ridiculous dude. Simplify? That offends me as it implies I am stupid. You are attempting to belittle. That makes you a bad person.

That more your style?

Watch what I say? And who determines if something is stupid? You? Think before I speak? Think about what? Whether it could ever be interpreted as offensive to anyone on Earth? Thats ridiculous. If I say something is lame, it could be offensive to someone with a bad leg. How fragile do you think people are that they cant deal with other people using words they dont like? You think too lowly of your fellow humans. Youre intentions may be good but your execution is lacking. Emotions muddle your ability to communicate concisely. Youve not convinced me of anything. Which was literally my point.

November 21, 2017 6:52 p.m.

Should I simplify my prior statement, to which you chose not to rebut in any part?

November 21, 2017 6:53 p.m.

Oh, But you're free to say whatever you want. But don't ever expect people to lie down for it. Regardless of where it's at.

And I'm not trying to convince you of anything. simply making you aware that while you have the right to say what you want. Other people have the right to call you out on it. And you better be ready for it.

November 21, 2017 6:55 p.m.

Me saying simplify offends you? You probably shouldn't tell me about it. I probably don't care.

November 21, 2017 6:58 p.m.

Thats reasonable, touche! Now were getting somewhere!

November 21, 2017 6:59 p.m.

See thats exactly my point! What good does it do for me to say youve offended me?

November 21, 2017 7 p.m.

Also the simplify thing was an example...

November 21, 2017 7:01 p.m.

Ok well I think were all done here. Lets get back to what we have in common: Magic!

That Urza PW is nuts....
