Inspiration

I just noticed this ability on one of the new spoilers.

~Mediator of the Ideal 4uuCreature SphinxFlyingInspiration Whenever ~ becomes untapped, reveal the top card of your library. If it's an artifact, creature, or land card you may put it onto the battlefield with a manifestation counter on it. It is an enchantment in addition to its other types.

So needless to say that card is insane for combos in other formats but what I'm more interested in is Inspiration. Making things into enchantments as you bring them into the battlefield on a cheaper cmc card that ability could be insane with Ethereal Armor still in standard.

The spoiler source is mtgsalvation i would post a link to the card but its not in english.

If the inspiration ability is as good as it looks right now, it would seem like Mr. Ral Zarek might lead to a new kind of deck when BNG releases; that's assuming the mechanic's effective and viable with the current meta.

On a side note sorry about the fail formatting guys I'm half asleep. On said note when are we going to get an edit function on here bah different time different place.

I'm mainly hoping for a cheaper form of Inspiration is seems like the main effect of it will be making things it brings into the battlefield enchantments although i could be wrong.

it will be a powerhouse when combined with any card that counts enchantments in play, say Oath of the Ancient Wood . also, from top of deck direct to battlefield will bypass so many high-CMC creatures

looks like BNG will capitalize more on the Scry mechanic. i expect mill cards to go even higher in price

I feel like the mechanic is actually about doing something when it untaps. Although making things enchantments might be part of the the set, I'm not sure that thats what Inspiration is for...

You have to remember that we're talking about a mono-blue 6-drop with no evasion. It's extremely vulnerable to removal and doesn't do anything the turn it's played. It's also in the wrong colour for large creatures (found in green and black). Therefore to capitalise on his, 'pay-for-free' mechanic you need to go simic or dimir, which are two of the weakest guilds at the moment for various different reasons.

I want to say that I can see him in some azorius aggro deck with Ethereal Armor but as a 6-drop I don't think I can......

Aye that's why I'm hoping there's a cheaper version of it because i find it an intriguing ability. I know the card is useless in basically everything except EDH. I'm hoping there's some 2 or 3 CMC cards with a form of inspiration that is playable at the same time. Seems like a cool mechanic that could see some cool things in the future most likely not but i can still hope.

I think inspiration might be about revealing the top card of your library and if it's X then Y happens. I don't think inspiration is necessarily about enchantments.

Or that might be what you meant. I'm not sure.

yup, that's why i was excited when I read the guide to BNG

The merfolk Kiora, a native of Zendikar, has been traveling the planes to strengthen her connection to the oceans' magic. Her home has been ravaged by the Eldrazi swarm, and she believes that only by summoning the fierce krakens, serpents, and other terrors of the deep can she defeat the titans who now rule Zendikar. She is obsessed with this pursuit and barely notices or cares about its effects on her surroundings.

Hmmmm it might be but that seems too vague an ability and very similar to Kinship and i'm sure there's been others like that in the past. Considering Theros is a mainly enchantments set as well I'm assuming Inspiration is some kind of mechanic causing things to enter the battlefield as enchantments through various means. Either one would make sense in my opinion. At the end of the day we'll see soon enough when other spoilers come out. One massive problem if I'm right what happens if wizards release an enchantment boardwipe that ability is pretty screwed. I have been hoping for things that interact well with enchantments though i mean Ethereal Armor does but its still an aura and thus pretty much useless on creatures without anything to protect themselves. Ah how i miss Geist of Saint Traft and Invisible Stalker .

I tried my hand at a couple of Bant and BUG Kiora decks but it still feels like something is missing. I do love her flavor though. Anyways I'm rambling now more good interaction with enchantments please wizards.

I'm pretty sure Inspiration has nothing to do with enchantments or putting stuff on the battlefield, its just when the creature is untapped something happens. Keywords such as Landfall and such do not generally mean an effect, they mean a cause (when you play a land, x happens, or when creature becomes untapped, x happens)

Sorry if that made absolutely no sense, it's just my thinking.
