I was thinking about the often mentioned "Immortal Sun" of Ixalan lore and had the idea that it could perhaps be the Mirari as the luring many great peoples in is typical of its lore. What are your thoughts on this theory and do you have any other ideas about what the Immortal Sun is or the role it will have in Rivals of Ixalan?

It's almost certainly whatever is keeping the walkers on Ixalan, or at least it seems that way with Angrath and planeswalker who just wants to leave looking for it

The Mirari isn't around any more, because Karn took it away, turned it into Memnarch and Memnarch got blown up.

Definitely can't be the mirari. As far as i know, it was turned into memnarch by karn. But still i'm pretty sure that the sun is what keeps the walkers from walking away. Maybe bolas wants to use it to imprison ugin somewhere so that he can't prevent bolas from following his plan.

Well look at this line I came across in the most recent Ixalan story:

"They would misuse it!" he hisses. "The Last Guardian entrusted it to us, and if we let it fall into outsiders' hands, then we are derelict in our duty. They will destroy us and all the world with us!"

"He entrusted us to keep it hidden," says Tishana, with the inevitability of a hurricane. "To keep it unused, Kumena. You have forgotten your place. You have forgotten our duty."

Then another line a little further below says:

"And yet. If the Last Guardian had meant for us to wield it, he could have entrusted it directly to our care. The history of the Immortal Sun is the history of its misuse by mortals."

Perhaps it is a bit of a stretch, but i'm for some reason thinking it might have been something left behind by Ugin perhaps by the mention of "he." What does anyone think of something along these lines?

After reading the first two stories; my initial thought was that the tribes will become color shifted

Vampires ->
They become frenzied in a last ditch effort to find the Immortal Sun

Merfolk ->
They take on a righteous role to protect the Immortal Sun

Humans: ->
The young emperor is driven to find the Immortal Sun at any cost

Pirates: ->
They become less chaotic and more conniving

After Kumena decided to be a little bitch and punch an old lady in the face; I'm not so sure about the merfolk anymore lol

I don't think it can be the Mirari, they speak of the Immortal Sun as something that was used several generations in the past, and having immense power. The Mirari would most likely have been on Dominaria or on Mirrodin at the time. I think the Immortal Sun is a Golgothian Sylex-like device that caused the downfall of the Merfolk.

I have my own theory that the Immortal Sun is an artifact created by a pre-mending planeswalker (The Last Guardian?) and is currently being used to keep planeswalkers on Ixalan, kind of like the hunger games.

...I may be way off here, but is there any chance there is a connection to Urza and Gerrard? Gerard was a swashbuckler. They are returning to Dominaria soon.. and Karn was Gerard's protector. Which all could connect to Mirari, perhaps not, but it is likely they will try to roll Ixalan into Dominaraia, not to mention Captain Sisay was part of Gerard's ship crew and her ability reallllllly got a buff with the new legend rule.

I think pre mending Ugin is the last guardian and Bolas wants to use the immortal sun to make Ravnica the nexus of the multiverse so he can destroy Dominaria and use its mana to restore himself to godlike status again but the gatewatch will use Ajani's soul magic, Nissa's leyline magic and Chandra's fire magic while Ugin destracts Bolas and channel fire magic into his soul and permanently destroy Bolas and save Dominaria, but that's just a theory
