A Comment for a Comment Project

Hello fellow tappedout users! I am trying to get a new thing going so please help me out! I am saying that whenever someone comments on your deck and says something helpful then you should comment on one of their decks with a helpful comment. This doesn't end here. You then must go find another deck (not owned by the person that made the original comment that started the chain) you haven't commented on and make a helpful comment there. This will hopefully help get more decks noticed and improve the tappedout community as a whole!

There's a very long thread over in Deck Help that's supposed to do this. However, I can't disagree with the sentiment that more help is worth promoting.

Not a bad idea. I normally try to practice this in principle anyhow. Still. Let's pay it forward, dudes!

Also (and I know this has been said before), let's quit posting comments like,

"Nice, check out my deck blah blah blah."

Nothing is more useless than somebody using somebody else's deck page as a billboard for their own.

@JakeHarlow - I couldn't agree more. If you're gonna make a comment make it a useful one! None of this advertising stuff

This is going to be a problem with people who have discussions on the decks. Do you have to make a comment for each and every single time they comment on yours? I think that all this is going to do is devolve into people saying "nice deck" just to get out of it.

I refute a lot of suggestions on my decks because most people just suggestion one random card and never actually explain in a VERY detailed manner why it should be used. On another side of things, my feedback isn't really good for the casual player. In fact, I avoid budget and casual decks because that is not how I play and that is not how I build my decks. So I would have no comments to make for most of the users who comment on my decks.

@ Femme_Fatale

I think the idea is to make a useful comment once in a person's deck (a person who commented helpfully on one of your deck pages). It's not like a 1-for-1 thing; thus discussions don't cause "owed comments" to accrue, lol. I think OP was just trying to point out an etiquette thing. If somebody gives you a comment that helped you out (not one of those you mentioned in which a user suggested something like "Stormbreath Dragon " without any intelligible exposition), it's a nice gesture to do the same for them if there's a chance. If they're a budget player or build decks that you don't feel qualified or otherwise able to comment on, then that's honestly fine. Just a look through their stuff is a nice gesture. At least that's my interpretation of this.

@JakeHarlow - You should be a professional interpreter! That is exactly what I'm getting at!

If someone makes a useful comment on one of your decks then go and do the same for them :D If you don't feel qualified and you think all of their decks are perfect, upvote some! And Jake is also right about discussions. When they comment for the first time on your deck you do the comment for a comment. Then after that you have a nice little discussion :)

I like this idea! and I agree with hating the useless ads and lack of explanations.

Yes. Yes. Yes! But a problem.

The one problem I see with this awesome policy is that 95% of T/O users can't see this post. Same with CanadianShinobi's The State of the Community post and my Deck Help post. The two of us had threads that pointed out some of the critical flaws of the T/O community, and started an open discussion as to how to fix them. The problem was, though, that almost nothing changed (in my opinion). I mean, not many people go out of their way to read stuff like this.

But still, I think you're on to something here. I'm gonna try and do this more often, because I think it's a great idea. Good job!

Good idea, I try to do this as often as possible although I am strictly a standard player (no offense to the other formats they are great). However if they have a standard deck, I will look to see what is helpful and make suggestions!

If thread could be upvoted, this would get my vote. :D Great community-strengthening idea. It's always hard for me to get outside opinions, and I always like to return the favor.

Yah I try to do it as often as I can! Sometimes I either forget or don't have the time. There's also been times where just upvoted a person's deck because I they were all standard and I don't mess with that format.

I really like this idea :) like, I like it a lot. Being a non upgraded user, i think that those who don't have upgraded accounts don't get as much attention as some others who are upgraded. And I always try to do this as much as possible, especially when non- upgraded users comment on my stuff, I know that simetimes it's just nice to get a little recognition.
