Today's adventure follows Hultai as she makes a beeline towards the Immortal Sun, as Jace and Vraska encounter an unexpected foe

That cliffhanger screams foreshadowing for a future block.

And it looks like Jace is much stronger now then he ever was.

It'll be interesting what will happen when he comes back to reunite with the Gatewatch

I agree. I love the new Jace...and I hated him with every ounce of my body. And he called himself a pirate. I hope they keep Jace that way.

Here's something that caught my attention:

"Sense what the dragon's plan was, stop him from doing harm, and for a brief moment, he had done it, he saw the goal, the endgame"

Is this saying that Jace knows what Bolas' plan is?

Ugin saved Jace. I found that revelation quite profound. It implies that Ugin wants to keep his survival and/or location a secret from Bolas. It is also interesting how he sees Ixalan as a place to keep a planeswalker contained and away from Bolas.

AgentGreen, I believe he saw the plan and is aware that is saw it. The story makes it seem, however, as if he cant remember what he saw

I LOVED those last few lines of this week's story. Azor steps in to bully Vraska, and Jace puts his psyche in harm's way to protect her (which is a new level of compassion for him, and also cements his respect and dare-I-say love for Vraska). Then he declares himself as Guildpact, which proves that he has reconciled himself with his past, but he chooses to define himself as a pirate (and affirms by extension his much more honest/good self of the Ixalan story). So cool!

saj0219, I think I agree with you. But Jace mentions that he might delve further into those memories when they aren't in imminent danger, so I'm betting he's the key to the Gatewatch learning Bolas' plans.

I also think it was neat that Ugin saved Jace and sent him to Ixalan. But the coolest part by far was when Jace casually realized how much of a jerk Liliana is. All it took was amnesia and a gorgon.

I really am enjoying how Jace has developed as a character in this arc; the writers have actually succeeded in making him a likeable and well-developed character. I took particular note of how Jace compared Vraska to Liliana, and the comparison favored Vraska very heavily, so I really hope that their story together does not have a tragic end.

It was interesting to learn that Angrath has visited Kaldheim, and it was also nice to see a plane that was introduced in Planechase being mentioned by name in the story, so I wonder if WotC has any plans to have a block set there in the future.

Although Azor has been seen only briefly, he did not seem to be too friendly to any intruders into his sanctum, so I hope that Jace and Vraska can negotiate with him. He is now the second sphinx in the story to have telepathic abilities, after Alhammarret, so I wonder if they are related, or it is merely a coincidence. And I absolutely agree with Phaetion that Azor's actual role in this block is likely to be minor, but he will definitely be more important later in the story.

Again, super relieved about new Jace being good, because I initially hated this whole thing haha! Interested in his character and intrigued by his actions!

I liked the part where Jace figures of the maze door and immediately after. The cleverness, humor, and then terror of the scene all worked for me.

Liked the twist of the Vampire Elenda. I'm again hoping for more Vampire love!

I actually suspect Kaldheim could be Angrath's home plane. He deliberately chose to try walking there and I can't imagine him wasting his potential first walk off of Ixalan by going anywhere but home.

I'm agreeing with RicketyEng. I came to that conclusion not long after I read it. Kaldheim's got to be Angrath's home plane. A bit of a stretch, but...

He uses heat-based spells and weapons...Kaldheim is freezing. Also, something else about Angrath tips this off too. Speech pattern? His daughters? His disdain for conflict (which was something Vikings loved)? I can't place my finger on it.

AgentGreen, saj0219 I just went back and looked at the moment Jace planeswalked away from bolas, and it said that he fell into bolas's mind before the dragon sent a wave of mind death. I imagine that when Jace was in bolas's mind, he was revealed to everything, since bolas "knew" he would destroy Jace's mind, but what he couldn't account for was Ugin's code to protect Jace.

Bolas beats Gatewatch
