Best Cube?

Ok, so there are over 500 pages of cubes on this site, almost all named such descriptive things such as "Bob's Cube", "Best Cube", "400 card Cube", "Asdf"(personal fav), or just "Cube" the most common one. Combine this with the fact that the descriptions are usually as short as their names, and I have been having a very difficult time trying to find good cube ideas.

Im looking to build a cube, another cube I should say, as this will be my second. But I am looking for a specific kind of cube to build.

Im looking for a cube that relies far more on synergy and card interactions than on raw card power. It should also have interconnecting themes, synergies, or draft archtypes. But should not be pigeon-holed into having to build into any one of them.

Im looking to hear from the community any such Cubes they may have played, or own, and where I could check them out. I know its a tall order and all. If you cant exactly fit the criteria above, thats cool, let me know what you think the best cube in that style was you have played or owned. Cheers.

Honestly, I think MM2 would be the perfect place to start for this project. It's powerful and was designed to be drafted, with a strategy for each bicolor pair.

I have 2 cubes and I am working on 2 more.

The 1st is my Peasant cube. http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/35136 You can follow this cube on Instagram with #naynayscube

I also have a 1-drop cube. http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/43251 Which was inspired by this https://pucatrade.com/blog/2015/the_one_drop_cube

I am 90% done with my End of the World cube. It is primarily black and white, featuring Angels vs. Demons, Zombies vs. Humans and Devils vs. Spirits.

After that I want to build a junk rare cube.

cubetutor.com is the resource you are looking for.

copy & paste those links.

I've only built one cube. It's a combination of both Ravnica blocks and is worth about $400. I only spent something like $100 on it and that includes sleeving up the whole thing in dragonshields, so there's that.

While building this cube, I learned that the process of building a cube relies heavily in trial and error. Lots of playing with it to get the balance of colors and opportunity costs to make sense and feel good.

The way it sound like to me is that you need to set up archetypes for your color combinations while still supporting their ability to lean on other colors for support. For instance, let's say you intend U/W to be able to be drafted both as a tempo-based aggro deck and a control deck. This color combination could then borrow pieces of red burn and other aggressive options or black removal or good stuffy finisher.

Identity is huge here. Think about what you want certain combinations to do. Make sure you're not forcing people to draft these strategies, however. That means making sure there's overlap between what the different colors want to do.

I'm with naynay666 on the 1-drop cube, but that's mainly because I also have a 1-drop cube.

I've put together a list for a multicolored only cube, and that's pretty hectic (Worldknit is terrific). I've also been working on mono-colored cubes.

Really make your cube how you want to. There's no proper way to make, apart from don't make one color(s) super overbalanced.

Karns_Pyromancer I bought a box of MM2 and drafted it with some friends, honestly I think I prefered MM1, but I drafted over two boxes of 1 so that could bias me a bit.

naynay666 Thanks for the links, for some reason whenever I go there Im logged in as ben, can only see bens cube, and cant seem to search for to view other cubes. Weird. Anyway, the 1 drop cube sounds fun, Ive heard pauper cubes can be great too, but I dont think that they can offer the complexities and interactions Im looking for. You have a very limited number of abilities with the 1 drop cube, and as card complexity scales with rarity, pauper would unlikely hold the depth Im looking for.

TheDevicer Yeah, thats definitely the way to go. I was looking more for suggestions of interlocking themes that synergize well together, sorta like how self-discard, reanimation, and self mill strategies all share a ton of cards that work well with each other. But at this point I am still looking for the ideas to start building the skeleton for.

brokendwarf I too love the new conspiracies. Your multi color deck gives me an idea...

So has anyone heard of a "Colorless" cube? Not colorless as in just playing colorless cards in it, but as in that you can spend mana as though it was any color? Kinda like Mycosynth Lattice except without the artifacty bit. Mark Rosewater would burst a gasket, I know. Fuck the color pie. But imagine the possibilities! It opens up so many more drafting options! Ermergerd, my mind is blown. Ill be back after I mull this over for a little while, Im rather excited by the idea. You guys think its a bad one? Let me know.

Although disregarding the color requirements of cards sounds exciting, you run the risk of the cube rewarding picking up the most outwardly powerful cards in every pack. Since there's less opportunity cost in picking up stuff, you're might reduce the number of times people will pass up on cards to secure that common removal or that creature to smooth out their curve. Things might begin to feel too solved. That's my fear.
