I don't know what these terms mean, but I see them brought up a lot with names of decks.

Thanks.

Jund is a shard from the Alara block with the black/green/red colors. Izzet is a guild from Ravinica with the red/blue colors. There a names for any color combination of up to 3 colors.

They refer to color combinations. Jund is a 3-color combination () and one of the Shards of Alara. The other shards are Esper (), Bant (), Naya () and Grixis (). Each of these are made of 2 allied color pairs and 1 enemy color pair.

Izzet is a 2-color () guild of Ravinca. The others are Simic (), Golgari (), Orzhov (), Boros (), Selesnya (), Gruul (), Rakdos (), Dimir () and Azorious ().

They are older ways to call color combinations, pretty much how you see the color combinations being called Jeskai, Sultai and so forth.

Here is a quick list to help you out.

2 Color Combinations:

Azorius: White/Blue

Dimir: Blue/Black

Rakdos: Black/Red

Simic: Blue/Green

Selesnya: Green/White

Golgari: Black/Green

Gruul: Green/Red

Izzet: Red/Blue

Orzhov: White/Black

Boros: White/Red

3 Color Combination:

Esper: White/Black/Blue

Grixis: Red/Black/Blue

Naya: Red/White/Green

Sultai/BUG: Blue/Green/Black

Jeskai/USA: Blue/White/Red

Abzan/Junk: White/Green/Black

Mardu/Dega: Red/White/Black

Bant: White/Green/Blue

Jund: Black/Green/Red

There are names for 4 color combinations too, but I don't remember them off the top of my head. This website should help you out as well: http://humpheh.com/magic/c/

Lore-wise, if you want background on the multi color "tribes":

Refer to the Alara block for information on the three color "ally color" groups.

Refer to the Khans block for information on the three color "enemy color" groups.

Refer to either of the Ravnica blocks for information on the two color groups. All ten combinations represent one of the ten different guilds on the plane of Ravnica.

Ally colors are colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.

Enemy colors are colors that are separated by another color on the color wheel.

What's the color wheel? Look at the back of any Magic card.

krunchyfrogg, don't listen to these liars. BWR = Dega. BWG = Junk

Guys, I'm not trolling, I just have trouble saying Marsu because I have been calling BWR Dega for so long heifer Khans happened. Same with Junk...and for those unaware calling it Junk is not an insult. Super strong color wedge. I seem to remember t as Morglen or somethin. Way back when.

Anyone remember what Jeskai, Sultai, and Temur were before khans? I think they all had names...

If your last question is serious, go to the website I linked in my comment and it should provide you the answer :)

I honestly don't think it matters what you call em so long as the naming convention is correct.

Thanks, The_Riddlebox. I didn't even realize there was a link in your comment on the bottom. Never knew the 4 color names. Good stuff.

capriom85: those are the Invasion names. Jeskai was Raka, Sultai was Ana, Temur was Ceta, and Abzan was Necra. I'm not really sure where Junk for B/W/G came from.

The name "Junk" for G/W/B was coined by Adrian Sullivan. It just kind of referred to the deck, at that time, not having any real synergy and it was literally just a good stuff deck aided by tutors, and I guess Adrian decided to call it Junk and the name just kind of stuck. I have been hearing it called that since I have gotten into magic, never sounded weird to me.

PhotogenicParasympathetic, Junk came from a pro tour player who did well with one of the first BWG decks to ever make it big. When they asked what inspired the player to make the deck he said "I just threw a bunch of JUNK together" and it stuck.

I have no idea where it's coming from, but I remember back in the day, pre invasion, people called it Morglen. No clue why...might not even MTG related specific.
